Learn about the recommended names for both you and monsters in Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (DQM3), whether these names will affect the game's story, and what the canon name of protagonist is.

You can choose any name you like for the protagonist in Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (DQM3), and there should be no problem going with any name since the contents of the game are unaffected regardless of the name change.
Name changes in-game can be made through the Other tab under Options menu, and this can be changed at any time!
If you are deciding to just go with the game's canon name, just enter with the game's default name Psaro. The name is based on the character Psaro who appears in Dragon Quest IV.

For purposes of immersion, you can choose to name the main character after your own to enjoy the world of Dragon Quest even more!
Should you ever feel like playing a different role, you can always change your name in the Options menu.
In Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (DQM3), you are free to name the monsters you successfully scout and this will not affect the story and gameplay.
After having assigned a name to your monster, you can have their names changed by talking to Zachariah at the Paddock at any time.

Above are some suggestions for monsters in general that you can use!
Since you will be managing monsters for the majority of the time in the game, it would be nice to give personal nicknames to monsters to become more attached to them. You can give them interesting or funny nicknames, or name them after your own pet!
Going out on adventures with your named monsters can be more engaging and memorable this way, and sharing stories with your monster nicknames to others will be more heartfelt!
