How to Beat Escudogre

Escudogre List of Attacks

  • Normal Attack
  • C-C-Cold Breath (AoE)
  • Buff (Defense Up)
  • Rando-Buff (May increase defense at the start of turn)
  • Acts 1-2 times

Escudogre Is an Optional Boss

Similar to Warhog, Escudogre is an optional boss within the Circle of Fortitude. The Circle of Fortitude, Upper Echelon area is a maze and there are many routes to the end that allow you to avoid the bosses.

Choosing to avoid fighting some bosses here will not affect anything, so feel free to choose another route if you don't want to fight Escudogre.

In the map image above, following the green route will avoid the fight with Escudogre.

Use Spell or Breath Attacks

Escudogre Reduces Physical Damage

Escudogre increases its defense with the Trait, Rando-Buff which may occasionally give it a Defense Up boost at the start of his turn. It can also cast Buff which also increases his defense. Physical attacks are ineffective against it due to this.

To counter this, bring Monsters that primarily use Breath or Spell attacks to bypass its resistance to physical damage.

Lower Escudogre's Attack and Increase Your Defense

DQM The Dark Prince - Attack Down Defense Up Escudogre
Escudogre does not use any spell attacks, so it primarily uses physical and breath attacks to deal damage. You can use skills and items that reduce an enemy's attack power.

Some suggestions would be Sag Powder, a consumable item that can be used to reduce enemy attack power. And skills like Blunt or Attack Attacker.

You can also apply Kabuff which will increase your party's defense, further increasing their survivability.

Resistant to Bedazzlement

Inflicting Bedazzlement on an enemy that focuses on physical attacks to reduce accuracy is usually a good strategy. However, Escudogre in particular is resistant to such effects, so this strategy is not recommended.

Instead of trying to lower Escudogre's accuracy, it is recommended to lower its attack and increase your defense as mentioned above.

Bring Monsters with Brake Wind

Escudogre uses a powerful breath attack called C-C-Cold Breath in addition to its repertoire of physical attacks. This attack deals high damage, so if your buffs and debuffs wear off when this attack hits, it may wipe your entire party.

As a precautionary back up plan, we recommended bringing a Monster that has Brake Wind to reflect the damage back to Escudogre and protect your party from the attack. The reflected attack can reach up to 800 points of damage!
