This is an article about the connection between Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (DQM3) and Dragon Quest 4. Read on to learn the similarities and differences of the stories of the two games.
DQM3 shares a clear connection with the numbered title Dragon Quest 4. The main character from Dragon Quest 4, along with the Guided Ones, also makes an appearance. Notably, the story of Dragon Quest 4 is presented from Psaro's perspective.
While there is a connection to Dragon Quest 4, DQM3 exists as a parallel world to it. The narrative unfolds as a tale of one possibility that could have transpired in Dragon Quest 4.
Players can enjoy the game by exploring scenarios like what happened behind the scenes of Dragon Quest 4 or what if choices made about the story were different.
In contrast to Dragon Quest 4, DQM3 alters the narrative regarding Psaro's involvement in the destruction of the village deep in the mountains where the hero lived. The village was not destroyed by Psaro but instead by another monster, the older brother and the first prince, Dolph, the Destroyer, who committed the crime under the name of Deathpizarro.
Psaro was also in the village but to kidnap the hero and render him powerless, and not to engage in extreme actions such as killing villagers or the hero.
Circle of Temper (Middle Echelon)
The disappearance of Zamoksva residents in Chapter 2 of Dragon Quest 4 is explained in DQM3. Psaro kidnapped Estark in Diabolic Hall to gather information, but the story emphasizes that he did not intend to murder.
Unlike Dragon Quest 4, Psaro does not assume the role of the final boss. The reason for this deviation is explained in the story of DQM3.
The pivotal incident leading to Psaro becoming the final boss in Dragon Quest 4, where Rose was killed by a malicious person, occurs similarly in DQM3. However, Rose is saved by her friend Professor Toilen Trubble, who utilizes the sands of time to rewind time. With Rose saved, Psaro no longer becomes the final boss.
This scene unfolds after clearing the Cradle of Corruption (Middle Level).
Cradle of Corruption (Middle Level)
Unlike in DQM3, the sands of time were not utilized in the final stages of Dragon Quest 4, with Deathpizarro fighting the Guided Ones as the final boss. In addition, there are also other differences, such as Dolph being the one who destroyed the village of heroes and the importance of Rose to Psaro's fate.
