What Kind of Character Are They? | ・Starting weapon skill is very powerful ・Able to buff allies' Spd stat ・Low Atk and Res stats |
Might: 14 Range: 2 After combat, if unit attacked, grants Def/Res+6 to unit and allies within 2 spaces of unit for 1 turn. Effect:【Dagger 6】 【Dagger 6】 After combat, if unit attacked, inflicts Def/Res-6 on target and foes within 2 spaces of target through their next actions. |
Range: 1 Swap HP with adjacent ally (neither unit can go above their max HP). |
If unit initiates combat, deals 10 damage to foe after combat. |
At start of turn, grants Spd+4 to adjacent allies for 1 turn. |
Resplendent Attire has been released for Matthew. With their Resplendent Attire equipped, they will have a different appearance, have new voice clips, and additionally, gain +2 to all stats. If you really like Matthew or you want to make them stronger, you may want to buy a FEH pass and get the Resplendent Attire.
Stat | Superboon/Superbane | IV Recommendation |
---|---|---|
HP (17) | ★★☆☆☆ | |
Atk (13) | ★★★☆☆ | |
Spd (10) | ★★★★★ | |
Def (6) | ★★★★☆ | |
Res (5) | ★★☆☆☆ |
◯ = Stat gains +4 with a superboon, ✕= Stat goes down by -4 with a superbane, - = No assets or flaws
See the IV Checker for All Units | Trait Fruits—How to Change IVs |
When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.
The best IVs for Matthew are +Spd and -HP. A higher Spd stat allows Matthew to deal with less follow-up attacks from foes, increasing his survivability. It also improves his ability to score follow-up attacks. His HP is of less importance to him and he can easily make up for it through the weapon refinement so it can be easily taken as his bane.

This is very similar to the other build Matthew has on here. He will still have mixed buffing and debuffing abilities, but instead of enemy phase ability, he opts for more player phase power. Def/Res Ruse 3 is reliant on allies because it is not ideal for him to take a Rally skill. Because of this, you may want to take something else such as a Seal skill or Poison Strike 3.

This set for Matthew allows him to buff his allies and inflict debuffs against the enemy team. Seal and Smoke skills are taken together so that both the primary target and surrounding foes are inflicted with debuffs.

Spy's Dagger allows Matthew to shine in debuff-heavy teams. This is a must get if you plan to run Matthew with units like Yune and Fallen Corrin (F) who have powerful easy-to-apply debuffs. It also patches his weakness of low firepower if utilized correctly. Take note that you would not be able to take advantage the debuffs of Dagger 6 directly as it is applied after Matthew has attacked.
Rogue Dagger+ can also be upgraded, but of course Spy's Dagger is superior.

Note: Stats bonuses from skills are not taken into account.
Matthew is a ranged physical attacker (range = 2). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.
Spy's Dagger grants +6 Def/Res to Matthew and all allies within 2 spaces of him after combat for 1 turn. It also inflicts the general defense debuff that is common to all dagger weapons. It inflicts -6 Def/Res causing a a surplus of +12 Def/Res in favor of your team. Be mindful of Matthew's position in relation to his allies and enemies to reap the full benefits of Spy's Dagger. It also has a special refinement effect which you can read more about in the weapon refinement section.
Poison Strike 3 deals 10 fixed damage to Matthew's target after combat. Since Matthew can also inflict debuffs by attacking, he makes it really easy for his allies to take out the enemies that he has weakened.
Take note that damage from Poison Strike 3 is not lethal. This is why Matthew needs another ally to finish up those whom he has weakened.
Hone Spd 3 grants +4 Spd to Matthew's allies if they are adjacent to him at the start of the turn. The +4 Spd buff lasts for 1 whole turn. This is a great buff as it is easy to utilize and Spd is useful for most units.
Mathew has low damage output. We do not recommend that you rely on him as your primary damage dealer. He is much better off as a debuffing-support type unit.
Matthew's Res only sits at 18 at Lv.40. This makes it easy for magic users to take him out. Be mindful of Matthew's positioning in relation to magical units that can easily take him out.
Should You Unlock Potential for this Hero? |
---|
We cannot recommend you to Unlock Potential to make Matthew - Faithful Spy a 5 Star Hero. Matthew - Faithful Spy is difficult to make use of except under specific conditions. Unless Matthew - Faithful Spy is a favorite character of yours or you have excess Hero Feathers to spare, we recommend you pass on Unlocking their Potential.

Matthew can be used to inherit the skill Rogue Dagger+ . However, it is only available from Matthew at 5★ so you will need to spend some feathers before being able to get it from him. Situations where you will need this weapon on a nother unit are rare so you might be better off sending Matthew home for feathers if you are not interested in using him in combat.

Whoa, never a dull moment with you around, is there? You really keep a spy on his toes! Speaking of which, you know how we spies stick to the shadows? It’s not smart to have close friends. Makes sense, right? A spy needs the flexibility to do what he needs to, when he needs to. Friends just muck things up. The only problem with all this is you. You’re the kind of person a spy can’t evade forever. Oh, I’ll keep trying, friend, but for now, forget I said anything. |
