Happens When Update Files Fail to Download

Error Code: Diver usually occurs when the game is unable to connect to the servers to download the necessary files after a new update or patch has just been released.

This may be caused by heavy traffic to the servers as a result of multiple players attempting to connect after a major update such as the Season 01 and Season 01 Reloaded had just been recently shipped out to the live game.

Launch the Game After Peak Hours

Connecting to the servers at the same time as millions of other players around the globe causes the game servers to be heavily strained.

It might be best to launch the game after the first few hours of the release of a new update in order to properly connect to the servers and download the new update files.

Reset Your Router

The problem might be your own Internet Service Provider (ISP). Reset your router to clear the cache, this should speed up your connection allowing you to keep up with the heavy traffic connection to the main servers.

Verify Integrity of Game Files

If all else fails, Verifying the integrity of your game files allows the client to check for any missing files and download them.

Simply open the Steam Launcher, right-click Modern Warfare 2, select Properties and you should be able to see Verify Integrity of Game Files under the Local Files tab.
