Will Modern Warfare 2 Feature a Zombies Game Mode?

No Zombies Game Mode

Infinity Ward has chosen to follow a similar route with Modern Warfare (2019) and will not feature a Zombies game mode for Modern Warfare 2.

This was confirmed during the world gameplay trailer reveal in June 2022 when the development team answered questions from the gaming press.

Although past installments from Infinity Ward such as Infinite Warfare (2016) featured a Zombies game mode, the developer is known for excluding Zombies in order to focus more on the Campaign.

Potential Zombies Game Mode in the Future?

The current trend of Call of Duty games suggest that the next installment developed by Treyarch will most likely feature a Zombies game mode. However, this does not bar the possibility of a Zombies game mode being released in the form of a DLC for Modern Warfare 2.

While it is still early days, there are reports suggesting that the next Call of Duty will release in 2024 with Treyarch leading the way. This scenario fits the three-year development cycle among Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer with the last Treyarch game (Black Ops: Cold War) dropping back in 2020.

While the latest Call of Duty game will stray away from the staple Zombies game mode, it is expected that three new multiplayer game modes will be introduced to its players. In a blog post published by the official Call of Duty website, it was confirmed that three new game modes will be featured in Modern Warfare 2.

The new game modes are the following:

  • Knockout
  • Prisoner Rescue
  • Invasion (Ground War)
