To mine Sculk Shrieker, you need to have the Silk Touch Enchantment on the appropriate tool. Mining this block without Silk Touch will result in the block being completely destroyed or dropping its constituent items.
Sculk Shriekers can be found naturally generating in Deep Dark Biomes and Ancient Cities. They're often located near large patches of Sculk Sensors and Sculk blocks.
If any Mob that drops XP dies within a 7 block radius of a Sculk Catalyst while on a Sculk block, there is a small chance that a Sculk Shrieker will spawn. This occurs rarely however, so it will take some time before it appears.
Sculk Shriekers generated by Sculk Catalysts cannot summon Wardens.
You can activate a Sculk Shrieker by stepping on it or by making a vibration near a Sculk Sensor. This creates a terrifying shriek that lasts for a few seconds. Once it ends, players will be affected by Darkness, which repeatedly dims your vision.
After activating a Sculk Shrieker three times, it will spawn a Warden from the ground, which will promptly attack you if it detects your presence.
