☆ Which MGS Game to Pick at Start?

This is a beginner's guide to Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (MGS Delta). Discover tips and tricks to help you get started with your covert missions.

When you first start a New Game, you'll be asked to choose your favorite game from a list of old MGS titles. There is no right or wrong answer so you're free to pick whichever one you want.
However, if you're measuring by usefulness of the bonus then picking MGS2, MGS3, or MGS4 are all great choices since their bonuses offer great utility for newer players.
Which MGS Game to Pick at Start?

MGS Delta will feature 6 different difficulty settings. If you want a regular playthrough, then Normal is best. Only ever go for Very Easy if you plan to 100% collectibles on your first try. Veteran players looking to get FOXHOUND on their very first attempt can play on Extreme.

MGS Delta also offers a new control scheme called New Style which features an over-the-shoulder camera when shooting as well as a slew of QoL changes when it comes to button mapping. If you're used to modern 3rd person titles, then New Style is for you.
Should You Pick New Style or Legacy Style?

MGS Delta is a game that requires patience. Since it is a stealth game, you will need to strategize on how to get past enemies by waiting and figuring out their behavior.
Utilize your camouflage, stalking skills, and the environment to avoid detection. Remember, being patient will always pay off better than running and gunning your way through each level.

Your Camouflage Menu provides several fatigues and face paints with various camo patterns. Use a specific pattern in each area to effectively blend into your surroundings.
To check your camo's effectiveness, observe the percentage on the Camo Index, located at the top right corner of your screen. The higher the percentage, the less noticeable Snake becomes.

Stalking is Snake's stealth-mode walk, which allows you to avoid detection and also approach enemies carefully and silently. This technique enables you to get close to foes and perform CQC (close quarters combat) actions against them or prevent encounters altogether.
To stalk, simply press the Stalk button in your desired direction. It's best to start using Stalk when you're already very close to the target.

Close Quarters Combat (CQC) is your vital fighting skill in MGS Delta, offering both lethal and non-lethal attacks when you're close to an enemy. Pressing or holding the CQC button initiates a basic maneuver.
Your actions change based on your equipped weapon, giving you total control over the situation. With a CQC-compatible gun or knife, you can grab an enemy to use as a human shield, interrogate them for intel, or slam them to the ground. For a non-lethal knockout, a barehanded quick CQC combo is your best bet.

Physical activity and environmental factors decrease Snake's stamina over time. Lowered stamina can affect your combat effectiveness, leading to slower HP regeneration, increased gun sway when aiming, and reduced oxygen and climbing meters.
To restore stamina, Snake needs to eat food. Food that Snake can eat varies from what he can catch out in the wild, such as snakes (hence the Snake Eater in the title), fish, other animals, plants, and medical herbs among others.
Always stay stocked up on food as you progress through missions to maintain stable stamina. Be aware that eating spoiled food will cause Snake to suffer from food poisoning.

The game's combat mechanics give you the choice to either kill or incapacitate enemies. It is highly recommended to strategically take out enemies non-lethally, by using a tranquilizer gun or CQC takedowns, since getting little to no kills will be the only way to attain the higher title ranks like DOBERMAN, FOX, and FOXHOUND.
Successfully completing a non-lethal run will also grant you valuable camo unlocks and help you achieve the Peace Walker Trophy.

The Cure menu, accessed via the Survival Viewer, is your personal emergency medical kit for healing Snake's injuries. It displays a visual representation of his body, highlighting all sustained wounds.
Each wound or ailment requires a specific consumable medical item (e.g., a Splint for a fracture, Ointment for burns). Ensure you bring enough supplies or loot them from enemies.
You must treat every wound. Neglecting injuries will severely reduce your LIFE gauge, slow you down, and can cause continuous damage over time. Familiarize yourself with this menu to keep Snake in top fighting shape.
How to Cure Injuries and Illnesses

Metal Gear Solid Delta features various collectibles—Camouflage Uniforms, Face Paint, Food, Kerotan Frogs, and other unique items—that offer gameplay advantages and are tied to trophy unlocks.
A lot of these can be obtained across multiple saves - a quality of life change introduced in MGS Delta. If you want to gain access to some of the newer items like the AT-Camouflage, then do your best to 100% collectibles during your first or second playthrough of the game.
