Metal Gear Solid Delta Shagohod Boss Guide

The Shagohod is the eighth boss you fight in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater (MGS3 Remake). Read on to learn how to beat the Shagohod in Groznyj Grad Rail Bridge, including tips for getting a non-lethal boss kill, missable collectibles you can get in his arena, and rewards for beating him.

Shoot Rockets at the Shagohod's Treads

The first phase of this boss fight is relatively easy. Eva will be driving you on her motorcycle as the Shagohod tries to run you over. Shoot the tank's treads with the RPG-7 (Rocket Launcher) to immobilize it. Once the tank can no longer move, aim for the damaged section at the back to deal damage.

Shoot Out the Missiles Before They Land

The Shagohod will launch a volley of homing missiles if the fight goes on for long enough. Instead of Chaff Grenades, you can just switch to something like the M63 LMG to quickly one-shot each missile before it can land.

Keep Shooting the Treads in the Second Phase

After depleting the Shagohod’s HP, Volgin will jump on top of the tank to take control. For this segment of the fight, you'll be on foot. To start, simply shoot the the left or right tread of the Shagohod with an RPG-7 rocket.

When it stops, shoot Volgin's head with the SVD or Mosin Nagant (for a non-lethal kill). If you're having trouble aiming, spraying him with the M63 also works.

Alternate Between Shooting Treads and Shooting Volgin

For this to work, make sure you're directly in front of the Shagohod. Then, shoot out either tread to get it to stop. When a tread is disabled, Volgin will look at it. When this happens, he ever so slightly exposes one side of unshielded head to you. Take the opening and dome him.

Now, rinse and repeat this. After shooting his head, switch back to the RPG-7 and shoot out the other tread. This causes Volgin to look at it again, giving you another opening to shoot. Rinse and repeat to "stunlock" your way to an easy victory.

You will mainly be using the RPG-7 to blow up the Shagohod's treads and destroy the tank itself during the first phase. During the second phase, continue using the RPG-7 to immobilize the Shagohod. Cycle to the SVD or Mosin Nagant whenever Volgin presents an opening for a shot.

Note: The Stamina Kill option is presented here since getting 0 humans killed is a requirement to get the PEACE WALKER trophy and the FOXHOUND title on Extreme and European Extreme.

As soon as you spawn in, zoom into the radio tower directly in front of you (northwest of the arena). The Kerotan will be near the top of the radio tower's concrete base.
