Metal Gear Solid Delta Volgin Boss Guide

Volgin is the seventh boss you fight in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater (MGS3 Remake). Read on to learn how to beat Volgin in Groznyj Grad B1F, including tips for getting a non-lethal boss kill, missable collectibles you can get in his arena, and rewards for beating him.

Spam CQC Throws and Rolls to Deplete His Stamina

Given how much Volgin hates you using firearms, the easiest way to beat him is to actually go for a non-lethal takedown. During the fight, spam CQC Throws to put him on the ground. Once he's prone, quickly dodge roll over him to deal additional stamina damage.

On Extreme difficulty this strategy is very effective since he leaves himself open to CQC attacks during the entire fight.

Shoot Him When He Powers Up or Talks to Ocelot

Throughout the fight, Volgin wiil interrupt his attacks to do power up animations (where he starts flexing and electrifying his body) or speak to Ocelot. During these lulls in combat, you're free to shoot him in the back of his head.

Since a non-lethal kill is easier to achieve, shoot him with an Mk22 or Mosin shot to deplete even more stamina on top of your CQC and roll attacks.

Get Close When Volgin Uses Ranged Attacks

Volgin will have 2 regular ranged attacks. The first is when he shoots a ray of lightning whenever you pull out a weapon. If you get hit by this while a weapon is equipped, it gets drained of all ammo.

His second ranged attack is when he starts using a finger gun to shoot electrified bullets at you. During either of these attacks stay close to Volgin since you can interrupt both with a well timed CQC throw.

Chaff Grenades Make His Lightning Attacks Go Wonky

If you chuck a Chaff Grenade before he unleashes a lightning attack, the beam will start going up, avoiding you entirely. You can do this regularly during the second phase if you're having trouble dodging the lightning.

Duck Under His Bullet AoE Attack

Volgin opens up his 2nd phase by doing an AoE bullet attack. You'll know he's about to do it if you see bullets start floating all around him.

This one is the easiest to dodge. Go close to him then go prone. This allows you dodge everything while also keeping you close enough to follow up with a CQC throw right after.

You Can Also Duck His Improved Lightning Beam Attack

After entering the 2nd phase, his regular lightning beam attack will now have 2~3 beams instead of one. However, this version is much easier to dodge. When he fires it off, simply go prone again and all lightning beams should miss you.

Run in Circles When He Starts Charging

Whenever he isn't shooting bullets or lightning, Volgin will be charging at you like a feral bull. When he does this move, simply run around in cirlces until he stops. After does a two-hit combo, get close and CQC throw him to get damage in.

For non-lethal runs, the CQC Throw and dodge roll combo is unmatched. The Mk22 is only ever used if he isn't spamming his lightning attacks.

For lethal runs, the M37 is a good choice. Just make sure to remember to unequip your guns when he's invulnerable to bullets, otherwise, you risk it getting drained of ammo when he attacks with his lightning.

Defeating Volgin non-lethally will reward you with the Cold War Camouflage. When equipped, enemy soldiers will hesitate to shoot you making it ideal for the sidecar run you're about to do after the boss fight.

As soon as you spawn into the boss fight, look towards the southwest and up. You'll find the Kerotan peeking from the upper edge of the makeshift arena.

As soon as the boss fight starts, look east and you'll find the camouflaged GA-KO sitting on top of a metal cage.
