The Pain Hornets’ Nest is a special food item in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (MGS3 Remake), obtainable only during The Pain boss fight. This guide explains how to get it and the reward you’ll receive.

How to Get the Pain Hornet's Nest
Make Sure You Have a Hornet’s Nest in Your Inventory
Before you can obtain the Pain Hornets’ Nest, you first need to have a regular Hornet’s Nest in your inventory. These can be collected earlier in the game while backtracking from Rassvet during Operation Snake Eater.
One can be found on the south side of the bridge in Dolinovodno, while another hangs from a tree in the swamp area of Dremuchij Swampland near the northern side of the bog.
Progress Until The Pain Boss Fight
Continue through the main story until you encounter The Pain in Chyornaya Peschera Cave. This is where you will need to use the Hornet’s Nest in order to obtain its special variant.
Use the Hornet’s Nest Against The Pain
During the battle, wait until The Pain throws the green serum that attracts his swarm of green hornets. Once he hits you with it, immediately equip the Hornet’s Nest from your inventory and throw it onto his platform. The green hornets will swarm toward it, and after a short while, the nest will transform into the Pain Hornets’ Nest.

Obtaining the Pain Hornets’ Nest is part of the Food Collection challenge. Collecting it will reward you with the Gastronome Trophy, which is unlocked only when you have discovered and eaten every food item in the game.
Not Required for the EZ Gun
While the Pain Hornets’ Nest is needed to complete the Food Collection challenge and earn the Gastronome Trophy, it is not a requirement for unlocking the EZ Gun.
