How to Change Difficulty

Cannot Be Changed During a Playthrough

Selecting Difficulty

Once you have chosen a difficulty at the begining of the game, you are locked into that choice for the entire playthrough.

To switch difficulties, you’ll need to either begin a new game or load a completed save file to start New Game+.

New Game+ Allows You to Start at Any Unlocked Difficulty

A welcome quality-of-life change in MGS Delta is that New Game+ lets you start a new game in any difficulty even if you haven't finished the game on that difficulty, previously. This makes it easier to finish higher difficulties like Extreme since you'll have access to NG+ items.

Best Difficulty Setting for MGS Delta

Easy is Best for Beginners or First-Time MGS Players

Easy

Easy Mode is the perfect starting point for beginners and first-time Metal Gear Solid players. Despite offering new style controls, MGS Delta can still be a bit finicky to play at times, so Normal may still be too difficult for those new to the game or series.

However, do note that for completionists, Very Easy is best since access to the EZ Gun makes collecting all Kerotan Frogs, Ga-Ko, and Food Items in a single playthrough far less frustrating.

Normal for Returning Fans and Completionists

Normal

Normal offers a well-rounded experience which provides a fair balance between stealth, combat, and resource management. Given how faithful the remaster is, returning fans who simply want to re-experience the masterpiece that was MGS3 can choose this difficulty setting.

Completionists may also want to play on this setting, since all collectibles like the Kerotan Frogs and Ga-ko are easily collected on Normal difficulty and below.

Extreme if You Want to Get FOXHOUND

If you’re aiming for the FOXHOUND title, then Extreme is the way to go. On this difficulty, enemies are much more alert and deadly. Bosses are also much more difficult, requiring previous experience since most exploits for them have been patched out.

This difficulty is recommended only after you’ve completed at least one playthrough, gathered all the camos, and are fully familiar with all boss mechanics.

Is There a Difficulty Trophy?

No Difficulty Trophy but One Requires You to Play on Extreme

Gold TrophyGold FOXHOUND
Acquire the FOXHOUND title.

There are no trophies tied to clearing the game on any difficulty. However, there is one trophy called FOXHOUND that requires you to complete the game with a FOXHOUND rating. This is only possible if you're playing on Extreme or European Extreme difficulty.
