The Sorrow is the sixth boss you fight in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater (MGS3 Remake). Read on to learn how to beat The Sorrow after escaping Groznyj Grad, including info on how to skip this entire boss fight as soon as you spawn.

Using this skip will cause you to miss out on getting the Spirit Camo which you need to get the A Snake Has Many Skins trophy. |

If you really don't want to go through this boss fight then you can skip it at the cost of 100% camo completion. To skip the Sorrow, dive as soon as you spawn in the river.
Then, wait for your O2 to run out and your HP to drain to 0. Upon dying, consume a Revival Pill to complete the boss fight and continue on to the next story mission. For FOXHOUND runs, this is the go-to strat for saving time.
Unlike other boss fights, the goal against the Sorrow is to reach the end of the river while avoiding ghosts, which damage your HP on contact. You can use your SAA (Revolver) to stun them, giving you time to escape.
You can also gauge how far along you are in the river by the bosses that appear, since they come out in the order you fought them. So if you see the Fury, for example, you're nearing the end of the encounter.
The ghosts are composed of all the bosses and NPCs you've killed. If you took the pacifist route up to this point, only the five bosses will appear, regardless whether you defeated them in a lethal or non-lethal way. Meaning, the more enemies you've killed, the harder this fight becomes.
Later in the fight, the Sorrow will summon blue tendrils that flash disturbing images on the screen and knock you down on contact, leaving you vulnerable from the ghosts. Avoid the tendrils by walking diagonally.
When you reach the skeleton at the end of the river, the Sorrow appears and kills you instantly. However, don’t be fooled by the game over screen, as you can still open the menu while you're dead.
Open your Equipment Window and consume the Revival Pill to end the boss fight quickly.
Unlike previous boss fights, you won't be “fighting” The Sorrow directly. Instead, you'll be doing your best to dodge his ghostly lasers while also avoiding the ghosts appearing on the river.
However, you can use the Single Action Army (SAA) that The Boss slipped you to deter the ghosts from approaching Snake. This is especially useful if you find yourself getting swarmed midway through the “boss battle.”

Unlike other bosses, the Sorrow cannot be defeated non-lethally. You must reach him at the end of the river and then examine his body after reviving to get the Spirit Camouflage. When equipped, this camo eliminates footstep noise while also allowing you to drain the stamina of enemies by choking them in CQC.
