If you're a fast-moving stealth player, the Spirit Camo can compensate for that, as it eliminates footstep noise. It can also help you get closer to enemies for CQC and hold ups, making it a highly recommended stealth camo. You can get the Spirit Camo by reaching the end of The Sorrow boss fight.

![]() Sneaking Suit |
![]() Effect: Cuts all damage in half and reduces stamina consumption. |
The Sneaking Suit Camo is a versatile camo for both stealth and combat. It halves incoming damage and reduces stamina consumption, allowing for more stamina-intensive actions.
You can get the Sneaking Suit Camo from the same locker where you stuffed Raikov in Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: East Wing 2F. Note that the camo only spawns if you revisit the location after being tortured later in the story.

![]() Sneaking Suit |
![]() Effect: Cuts all damage in half and reduces stamina consumption. |
![]() Battle Dress (PW ver.) (DLC) |
How to Get: Purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition. Effect: Greatly reduces all damage taken and boosts natural LIFE recovery rate but decreases movement speed. |
![]() AUSCAM |
How to Get: Choose I like MGS 1 when starting a new game. Also unlocked after finishing the game once. Effect: Wearing it reduces incoming damage to 2/3. |
If you chose the MGS1 option at the start of the game, AUSCAM is the best camo for boss fights due to its damage-reducing properties. However, if you have the Digital Deluxe edition, the Battle Dress (PW ver.) is a superior option, since it allows you to pick a different bonus camo.
Later on, both can be replaced by the Sneaking Suit as it cuts damage to half and minimizes stamina loss. Camos that reduce damage are helpful for achieving the FOX and FOXHOUND ranks, which have a low damage requirement.

![]() Grenade |
How to Get: Choose I like everything in the MGS series when starting a new game. Also unlocked after finishing the game once. Effect: Wearing it allows you to use grenades limitlessly. |
The Grenade Camo allows you to use grenades infinitely. This is a good alternative when you run out of ammo for your guns during boss fights. To get the Grenade Camo, choose the answer “I like everything in the MGS series!” when starting a new game.

![]() Mummy |
How to Get: Choose I'm playing MGS for the first time when starting a new game. Also unlocked after finishing the game once. Effect: Wearing it prevents injuries which require bandages to treat. |
Equipping the Mummy Camo prevents sustaining injuries that require bandages. We recommend using this camo if you often find yourself in combat or during intense boss fights. To get the Mummy Camo, choose the answer “I'm playing the MGS series for the first time!” when starting a new game.
| Camouflage | How to Get and Effect |
|---|---|
![]() Cold War |
How to Get: Defeat Volgin non-lethally. Effect: Enemies from the Soviet side will hesitate to attack. |
The Cold War Camo prevents enemy soldiers from shooting you from the front. This is especially useful during the motorcycle sequence near the end of the story, as many soldiers will be chasing you. Note that the Cold War Camo only works on normal enemy soldiers, not bosses. You can obtain it by defeating Volgin non-lethally.
| Camouflage | How to Get and Effect |
|---|---|
![]() DPM |
How to Get: Choose I like MGS 1 when starting a new game. Also unlocked after finishing the game once. Effect: Wearing it doubles your natural LIFE recovery rate. |

![]() Infinity |
How to Get: Finish the game with a captured Tsuchinoko or get a FOXHOUND ranking after finishing a playthrough. Effect: Weapons will not run out of ammunition. (Using this will prevent you from acquiring certain titles.) |
The Infinity Face Paint grants infinite ammo, allowing you to go crazy with firearms and not have to worry about ammo during boss fights. Note that equipping it prevents you from earning certain titles. You can obtain the Infinity Face Paint by capturing a Tsuchinoko and keeping it until the end of the game or by achieving a FOXHOUND rating.

If you purchased the Digital Deluxe edition, you can use the Gold Camo. Wearing it significantly boosts movement speed at the cost of a lower camo index. Despite this drawback, it’s still useful for speedrunning or when using the EZ Gun and Stealth Camouflage.

The Crocodile Suit and Banana Camo increase the amount of stamina restored when eating food, with the latter also providing a movement boost. ![]() Effect: No CQC. |
Enemy soldiers wont notice you if you wear the Maintenance Uniform in Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: East Wing. However, fellow maintenance crew can tell you're in a disguise so still try to avoid them. Wearing the Maintenance Uniform will make it much easier to install the C3.
The Maintenance Uniform only spawns after the torture sequence in Groznyj Grad. Head back to the 2nd floor of Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: East Wing and it will be inside one of the lockers.

Wearing the Scientist Uniform, Officer Uniform, and Mask Face Paint will also prevent soldiers from noticing you in Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: East Wing, with the former also being effective in Graniny Gorki Lab but not against fellow scientists. Note that the Officer Uniform and Mask Face Paint loses its effect after you're caught in the camp and lose one eye.
