Feral Glavenus |
Tarkuan Bountiful Dunes |
To unlock habitat restoration, players need to defeat the feral monster in the desired area. The feral monster will appear to have blue powder-like energy and a red icon above it. Players can also look at the red markings on the map for the locations of these feral monsters.
Defeating these monsters will unlock the campsite, which in turn unlocks habitat restoration for that area only.
| Step | Method |
|---|---|
| 1 | Unlock the area's function for camps, and thus habitat restoration, by defeating the area's feral monster. |
| 2 | Visit monster dens and collect multiple eggs. Try to collect multiple eggs of the same species or element as releasing the same species or element will result in a higher multiplier for increasing the ecosystem rank. |
| 3 | Hatch the eggs and level them up. Leveling the Monsties before releasing them increases the Ecosystem Rank by a larger amount. |
| 4 | Release the Monsties. Take note that there is a restoration slot limit of 5 per area. This limit applies to each unique Monstie species released. Also note that once monsters are released, players will be unable to retrieve them. |
| 5 | After releasing them, the ecosystem rank will go up and players will have a higher chance (highest if S rank) to encounter more potent and dual element monstie eggs of the species in dens. |
The usage of Habitat Restoration heavily relies on defeating the feral monsters in that specific area, as well as collecting multiple eggs of the same species or element, hatching the collected Monsties, and releasing them to boost Ecosystem Rank.

Habitat Restoration in Monster Hunter Stories 3 is the process of repopulating the environment with endangered or non-endangered monsties by releasing them into designated areas. Through habitat restoration, players can introduce mutated monsters in the area, find more potent eggs in dens with special skills and genes, and hatch dual-type monsters.

Players can collect, hatch, and release eggs from Monster Dens, Retreat Dens and Endangered Dens collected after defeating Invasive Monsters.

To unlock mutated monsters, players need to fulfill different requirements under Habitat Restoration. This includes raising a monster's ecosystem rank to a certain grade level or raising that grade level in a specific habitat. For clues about how to acquire these mutations, open the Monsterpedia.
List of Mutated Monsties: All Mutations

The central part of the menu shows icons for each type of monster found in each area. The bottom left side of the screen shows the environmental skills for the region called Region Powers.
The bottom right side of the screen shows the Ecosystem Rank for both naturally occurring and introduced monsters in the area. Monsters that were introduced in the area will be shown in the restoration slots.

Although you can release Monsties immediately after they hatch, releasing leveled-up monsties raises the Ecosystem Rank higher.
If players choose to release monsties of the same element, the multiplier for raising the Ecosystem Rank will increase, and thus leveling up the Ecosystem Rank faster.
Note that the element does not have to be the same as the area element but just has to be the same element as the other released Monsties in order to gain the multiplier.
Similar to releasing Monsties of the same element, releasing Monsties of the same species increases the multiplier for raising the Ecosystem rank.
A central part of habitat restoration is repeatedly visiting and farming egg dens. Keep a lookout for egg dens with higher rarity and dens with two nests. A helpful tip when farming these egg dens is to make sure to eat food that increases items gathered, which will also increase the drops of chests found in dens.

Be warned that Endangered Species can be lost permanently. Always keep in mind that it's highly important to secure their eggs in order to repopulate and prevent permanent loss!

Eco Conservation can prevent a species from being removed from their habitat, and this may come in handy since the restoration slots have a limit of 5, so make sure to plan ahead which Monsties you'll keep!

Using Habitat Restoration will also allow you to unlock specifc Egg Powers by raising the specified Ecosystem Rank of S, A, or B for that Monstie within their respective region.
Each Egg Power contains a certain effect that will influence your party members' abilities and performance on the battlefield. When a Monstie's Ecosystem Rank increases, their eggs get more Egg Powers when they hatch.
You can get stronger versions of the Egg Powers if your Monstie has the required genes indicated by the Symbols in the middle.
For example, the Serathis B-Rank Egg Power requires one Normal Element Gene, while the S-Rank Egg Power needs to have one Power Type, one Fire Element, and one Ice Element Gene. Sending a particular Monstie on Excurions can unlock Genes as well!

Increasing the Ecosystem Rank will result in more potent eggs found in dens. Monsties with rarer genes will greatly benefit from the Rite of Channeling feature, which allows players to customize their Monsties with these stronger genes. Customizing these genes helps awaken skills for added abilities.

With Dual-Element Monsties (Dual Type Monsties), Monsties will acquire special skills specific to the secondary element they have. This makes for a more in-depth customization option for your monsties' moveset.
Take note that to get specific Dual-Element Monsties, players need to be aware of the area element, which is the assigned unique element per area where the camps are located.

With a higher Ecosystem Rank, Monstie eggs will also hatch at higher levels, making it faster to level them up from the get go.

Adding a Monstie to an already-full Ecosystem will trigger a prompt, asking you to choose which existing Monsties you want to keep. Select which Monsties you want to maintain in the Ecosystem. Moreover, you can also use Eco Conservation to prevent them from being removed entirely.

So question what happens when you had full eco slots and rank s astra (I call it alien wyvern it’s in the stating area/zone) but you don’t get the boltweaver version as you didn’t have 4 electric monsters in the environment before hand
