Purple Gypceros
|
How to Get: Immediately obtainable in Broadleaf Basin ✓ Has access to Stuns and Composure ✓ High Wyvernfell and Defense stats ✕ Extremely Weak to Fire |
The best team you can have in Azuria are Dreadqueen Rathian, Boltreaver Astalos and Purple Gypceros. All, except Purple Gypceros, can be obtained as soon as you are done with the Endangered Species main story quest but you still need to work on their respective Invasive monsters and Habitat Restoration to get their mutations especially with Boltreaver Astalos.
The first two monsties also has access to an egg skill called Solar Cry, which raises the kinship gauge by 30. This is especially useful against hard bosses so you can deal massive damage, interrupt their attacks or heavily reduce their Wyvernfell gauge.
Early on in the game, it is extremely important to play around the Head-to-Head mechanic to reduce or completely negate damage. However, access to genes is scarce at this point of the game, so you need to always have a monster for each attack type you can swap around in battle.

If you do not have access to the monsters previously suggested or want more monstie on your team for you to use, you can get Tobi-Kadachi, Nerscylla, Royal Ludroth or Rathian.
The first three of these monsties have access to an egg skill called Heat Shimmering, which can buff the dodge chance of the party that can stack up to three times and helps increase the chance of avoiding damage completely. They also specialize in inflicting status ailments such as Paralysis and Sleep.
Rathian is the weaker version of the Dreadqueen Rathian and the only difference between them is their skills and stamina. If you prefer having access to AoE fire attacks then you can choose Rathian instead.
