During its Balancing State, the Feral Somnacanth will now try to apply Sleep Powder Spray to make your partners sleep. If an ally falls asleep, the Feral Somnacanth will use Siren's Temptation, causing massive damage.

Yian Kut-Ku
|
Anjanath
|
Dreadqueen Rathian
|
Our recommended Monsties to bring against the Feral Somnacanth are Monsties that can use Fire type attacks. The Dreadqueen Rathian makes an excellent choice for its strong Fire type skills.
On the other hand, Anjanath and Yian Kut-Ku are also good picks as they can also counter the Feral Somncananth's Technical and Speed head to heads while having Fire type attacks too.

The Feral Somnacanth will be at Level 18 when you fight it so level up yourself and your party to be at least Level 17.
Take note that players cannot adjust their party or visit their camps during The Northern Meridian Main Quest all the way to when the Rangers enter the new region. It is best to prepare your party with these considerations during the latter part of The Hostile Encounter Main Quest.
The Feral Somnacanth's Thunder type attacks may cause your allies to be paralyzed so bring items like Paracare to cure them if it happens. Your Monsties can also have the Antiparalysis Gene to avoid them from being affected by paralysis.

The Feral Somnacanth mainly uses a strong Thunder type attack so it is recommended to equip Thunder resistant gear like the Kadachi Armor.
Additionally, players can equp Fire or Ice Type weapons like the Arko Nulo-White or the Vicello Nulo-Red to take advantage of the Feral Somnacanth's elemental weaknesses.

Make sure to avoid attacking its stomach during its Balancing or Balancing (Storing Powder) State as it will retaliate with a strong attack, Backlash (Para).

Although the Feral Plasma Cannon will greatly damage your team, the Feral Somnacanth also applies Wyvernsoul Def Down to itself. This is a great opening to focus your attacks when depleting its Wyvernsoul.
To avoid the Feral Somnacanth from using its Sleep Powder Spray, try to break the Wyvernsoul Gauge when it is in its Balancing State by using the appropriate weapon damage type or Wyvernsoul depleting skills.

The Feral Somnacanth is encountered during the main quest, Forbidden Ground. At this point in the story, the group of rangers arrive at Canalta Timberland after passing through the Wyverian Gate and encounter the Feral Somnacanth in an open field.
