❖ Select a weapon to see more details.

The Great Sword is a Slash-type weapon focused on delivering powerful single-hit attacks. Its main mechanic is the Charge Gauge, which builds up when using certain skills or winning Head-to-Head encounters.
As the Charge Gauge increases, several Great Sword skills become stronger and unlock more powerful attacks. Riders can then consume this charge to unleash high-damage moves that deal significant damage to monsters.
| Great Sword Strengths |
|---|
|
|

The Great Sword is capable of dealing extremely high single-hit damage when its Charge Gauge is built up. Many of its skills focus on delivering powerful attacks that can significantly reduce a monster’s health in a single turn.
Because of this, the weapon excels at punishing monsters after openings or successful Head-to-Head encounters.
As a Slash weapon, the Great Sword performs best when targeting monster parts that are vulnerable to cutting attacks. These commonly include tails and other blade-sensitive areas.
Using Slash weapons on these parts can make part-breaking much faster and more reliable.
High burst damage combined with Slash-type attacks makes the Great Sword very effective at breaking important monster parts.
Breaking parts can interrupt certain monster actions and may also increase the materials obtained after the battle.
Compared to more complex weapon types, the Great Sword has a direct and aggressive playstyle. Players focus on building charge and releasing powerful attacks rather than managing multiple combat systems.
This makes it easy to learn while still remaining extremely effective.
| Great Sword Weaknesses |
|---|
|
|
Many of the weapon’s strongest attacks rely on having a partially or fully filled Charge Gauge.
If skills are used without enough charge, their damage potential can be significantly reduced.

Other weapon types in Monster Hunter Stories 3 offer more utility, such as buffs, defensive abilities, or status effects.
The Great Sword focuses primarily on raw damage, which means it may lack some versatility in certain team compositions.
