You can also anticipate the incoming attacks by watching the Battle Lines. When it's yellow, it means that the enemy will attack you. If it's blue, this means that a Head-to-Head will be triggered by your Monstie, Battle Ally, or your Ally's Monstie. To trigger a Head-to-Head, you must attack the opposing Monster on the other end of the yellow line!

Alternatively, you can also use Single Combat, a Gunlance skill that can redirect any blue line in your direction. This will enable you to take over any Head-to-Head clashes you and your battle allies would face.

Take note that there are three Attack Types, which are Power, Speed, and Technical. The key here is to remember that Power beats Technical, Technical beats Speed, and Speed beats Power. If you attack the opponent with the same attack type as yours, the clash will end in a Draw.
Also remember that a Monster's attack type changes when it's enraged or in a different form, so make sure to anticipate their behavior and status!
All Monster Weaknesses and Attack Types

Winning Head-to-Heads can make you skip an opponent Monster's turn to attack. This will give you more leeway to deal more damage and eventually raise the chances of victory.

Another benefit from winning Head-to-Heads is that it amplifies your damage output. Make sure to win by dominating the enemy's chosen Attack Type, so that you can place more damage in your attacks!

Double Attacks can also occur when you successfully win in a Head-to-Head. Triggering double attacks can also increase the chances of toppling the enemy, which leads to guaranteed critical hits.
