Honed Glavenus have 3 phases which are its regular state and Overheated Throat and Tail.
| Turn Count | Move |
|---|---|
| Turn 1 | Regular Attack |
| Turn 2 | Blaze Ball |
| Turn 3 | Blaze Ball |
Once Honed Glavenus enters Overheated Throat mode, he'll use a single regular attack which you can counter with a Power attack. After that, he'll use Blaze Ball which is a fire attack that inflicts poison twice in sucession. These attacks can easily be mitigated by healing so consider using Taunt and let Simon use restoratives to remove poison and heal you.
| Turn Count | Move |
|---|---|
| Turn 0 | Flame Chakram Uses this on regular turns which causes Honed Glavenus to enter Overheated Tail status. |
| Turn 1 | Regular Attack |
| Turn 2 | Tail Blade |
| Turn 3 | Bound Scorching Blade |
Overheated Tail ends its turn with a potentially lethal team wipe attack if your team's HP is unmanaged. The best way to counter it is to launch high Wyvernfell damage moves to stagger it. Once Honed Glavenus gets staggered on either the 2nd or 3rd turn, it will cause him to use Bound Scorching Blade, missing its entire attack.
Nerscylla
|
Tobi-Kadachi
|
Our recommended Monsties to bring against Honed Glavenus are Nerscylla and Tobi-Kadachi. They're early game monsties with the ability to inflict Paralysis and Sleep which can trivialize the fight against Honed Glavenus.
During the early game, the best fire resistant gear is the Kut-ku Armor. This can massively reduce Honed Glavenus' damage output to the team. Once you do, also consider getting a Gunlance with taunt to draw aggro to yourself to minimize Honed Glavenus' total damage output.
Simon have Velkhana as an Ally while also having tons of restoratives that can keep your team's HP topped up. His AI focuses on healing and removing status abnormalities which is enough to ensure that you'll win the fight. If you want a less baby sitting ally, Ogden is a good alternative thanks to his status ailment buffs.
Once Honed Glavenus attacks twice, it'll enter an Overheated state randomly between its throat and tail. Overheated Tail causes it to use more Power Attacks and Overheated Throat makes it use Technical attacks. It will also use regular attacks which you can capitalize on with head on showdowns to mitigate a part of its attack's damage.
Once Honed Glavenus attacks for the third time during Overheated Tail, it will unleash a wide area attack

Honed Glavenus uses a lot of high damaging moves. Paralysis can stop Honed Glavenus multiple times which results in a lot of free damage for the team. However, this will eliminate the chances of winning head on attacks on its regular attack turns it the ailment is used on that pattern's turn.
The Honed Glavenus is the main target monster you'll need to defeat during the Gathering Storm main mission. You'll be accompanied by Simon on your quest where you'll need to examine the area near the Ancient Battle ground. Once entering the area, you'll encounter the monster and begin the boss fight.
