2. Normal State |
| Normal State | |
|---|---|
| Enraged State | |
| Starving State |
Deviljho has 3 states which are its Normal, Enraged and Starving state.
| Turn Count | Move |
|---|---|
| Turn 1 | Power Attack |
| Turn 2 Will transition to Enraged state at turn end |
Dragon Eater (Single-Target Skill) |
Deviljho starts the fight in this state and primarily uses a Power attack so make sure to counter it with a Speed attack. However, if you preemptively striked it before the fight then it will be skipped and it will only use a skippable single-target skill before switching to the enraged state at turn end and it will not switch back to normal state for the rest of the fight.
| Turn Count | Move |
|---|---|
| Turn 1 | Dragon Blast (AoE Skill) |
| Turn 2 | Speed Attack |
| Turn 3 | Speed Attack |
| Turn 4 | Dragon Blast (AoE Skill) |
| Turn 5 onwards Will transition to Starving state if it was not able to hit anyone within 2 turns Will use this randomized moveset after going back from Starving state |
Randomly chooses from Dragon Eater (Single-Target Skill), Dragon Blast (AoE Skill) or Speed Attack |
In this state, Deviljho will start to glow and for the first time in this state, it will have a pre-determined moveset for the first 4 turns. Make sure you have ways to disrupt it because you can skip its AoE skills and it mainly uses Speed attacks therefore, counter it with a Technical attack.
After 4 turns, it will randomly choose any attack every turn to try and hit you but if you are able to avoid getting hit within 2 turns then it will immediately go to the Starving state.
| Turn Count | Move |
|---|---|
| Turns 1-3 Will transition to Enrage state at the end of turn 3 or when it was able to hit Overeater twice in a row |
Overeater (Single-Target Skill) |
During this state, Deviljho will try to hit you with a skippable single-target skill for 3 turns however, if it is able to hit you twice in a row then it will switch back to enraged state a turn earlier.
Pukei-Pukei
|
Espinas
|
The best monstie you can use are Pukei-Pukei and Espinas in this stage of the game. Deviljho is vulnerable against many status ailments and both of these monsties can do it efficiently. The most important status ailment you want is Paralysis and Darkness so that it has a chance of skipping its turns or missing its attacks.
|
|
Although it is doable at lower levels, it can be risky to fight Deviljho at these levels as it is more likely to oneshot your party members. The Monster will be at Level 62 so it is recommended to be at Level 50-55 to help with sustaining your characters.
EXP Guide: How to Level Up Fast
Deviljho deals dragon damage but is extremely weak against thunder attacks, make sure to use thunder weapons and equip yourself with dragon element armors. For this fight, in this stage of the game, you can use a Nerscylla Armor to increase the chance of inflicting status ailments and also a chance to survive a fatal attack.
Before going in the fight, craft or buy traps and knives to help you inflict status ailments to help you in the fight. Recipes for traps can be unlocked after doing Ogden's Side Story.
If you want to get the eggs of Deviljho, get some Paintballs too so that it has a higher chance of retreating once defeated if you use one in the battle.
As for the best ally to bring, Ogden and Kora are great candidates. Ogden can inflict a lot of status ailments since he has his own Pukei-Pukei too while providing buffs and traps too. Kora, on the other hand, can redirect attacks to herself while reducing the damage she takes since Deviljho mainly uses single-target attacks.
Always make sure to charge up your kinship gauge to as many monsties as possible if you were able to disrupt the enemy from using skills due to status ailments, traps or topple.
You can use equipment skills such as Pet or Solar Cry which is an egg skill a 7-star rank monstie can get in a non-elemental habitat.
List of Egg Skills and How to Get
Deviljho's deadliest attack is its Dragon Blast, which is capable of hitting your party. During its enraged state, if you do not see any red arrow or lines, it is most likely about to use Dragon Blast. Make sure to activate a kinship or consume a trap to prevent it from using said skill.

You can find a Deviljho early in Canalta Timberlands specifically found in Mt. Canalta in the high mountains or the forest below it.
