During habitat restoration in Monster Hunter Stories 3, players can release monsties into specific areas to spawn and collect monstie eggs with dual elements through elemental mutation. Learn how to change monster elements and which areas correspond with which element here.
List of Contents

Special types of monsties called dual element monsters are obtained by raising a designated monsties' ecosystem rank in specific areas. Shown encircled in red, each area in the map has an element assigned to them.
When players release their monsties into the habitat at camps, and thus raise the ecosystem rank, there will be a chance that eggs found in those areas will acquire the designated element and thus change the monsters' element. The higher the ecosystem rank, the higher the chances of finding these mutated eggs.
Lastly, although Blightstone Woods' area element is non-elemental, it will still apply non-element as a secondary element as it is considered a separate element in itself.
| Element | Areas |
|---|---|
| Blightstone Woods Blessing Hill Death’s Maw |
|
| Sunpetal Plains Howlinyhowl Forest Bountiful Dunes |
|
| Mirror Lake Cataracts Glacial Caps |
|
| Broadleaf Basin Mt. Canalta Rococo Rocks |
|

Frozen Grotto Old Capital Road |

Colossal Dragon’s Remains Sacrosanctum/Lazlion |
The table above shows a list of areas and their corresponding area element players can target to spawn eggs for dual type monsties.
Note that if you try to change a monster element that already has the same typing, for example a fire element monstie in Sunpetal Plains, eggs can spawn that have a double typing of that element, which in this case would be double fire typing. This double typing expands the monstie's available skill pool to include unique egg skills.

Dual element Monsties have a different appearance or mutation than their regular counterpart. This makes for a wide variation of monsties to hatch even under a single species.
Monsties with dual elements will also acquire new skills and genes based on the element they acquire. Players can strategize with different monstie variations/mutations in order have better element coverage when it comes to fighting monsters.
Once a monster has taken a secondary element however, it cannot be removed. It is important then to plan ahead and target specific dual type monstie goals before heading out and doing habitat restoration.
