What is Free Will (Autonomy)?

Let Zois Act Independently

Free Will—or Autonomy—allow Zois to perform actions automatically through the game's AI. This can allow Zois to go through their day to day lives without much additional input from their user, fuliflling their Needs and Urges when able and necessary.

How to Fulfill Urges

Zois Will Work Autonomously

Rookie Idol Exercise

Zois with Free Will can also act to fulfill Job Tasks at work.

This does not guarantee success, however, as the AI will try to balance a Zoi's Needs with their tasks.

How to Turn Off Free Will (Autonomy)

Press T Key When Playing the Active Zoi

Turning Free Will for Zois on and off is as simple as hitting the T Key by default, or clicking the small toggle on the bottom UI panel near the Needs display.

Doing this will shut off the Zoi's independent behavior.

List of Controls

Check The Eye Symbol

A Zoi's Autonomy status is reflected by the Cat's Eye symbol above their head.

When Autonomy is On, the symbol is White and shows an open eye.

When Autonomy is Off, the symbol is Orange and shows a closed eye.

Need to Turn Off Autonomy Individually

Autonomy must be shut off for each individual Zoi. It cannot be shut off on a global level or for a whole group at once.

This may make it more difficult to manage large groups of Zois or Zois across households.

Turn Off in Options Menu

Free Will (Autonomy) can be turned off in the Options menu, under the Gameplay tab. Navigate to Free Will and toggle the Enable by Default to Off.

Note that this currently have no effects on any Zoi's Free Will. It is likely that this will be fixed in a future update, possibly allowing players to turn off Free Will for multiple Zois at once.

When to Turn Off Free Will (Autonomy)

Helpful For Micromanaging Zois

It can be useful to shut off Autonomy when you wish to directly manage multiple Zois or are seeking a specific outcome from an encounter.

For example, you might want your Zoi to ignore their sleep and hunger for a while and stay up late to do homework. Turning Autonomy off helps manage this.

Be Careful About Ignoring Needs

Without Free Will, Zois will not take any action on their own, and will not fill any Needs without direction from the player.

Zois with thus grow Hungry, Sleepy, or Tired if ignored, and can even die from neglect if their Autonomy is left off for a long time.

Can Be Used to Murder Zois

Players can turn off Free Will to aid in performing murder. Remove a Zoi's Free Will and have them stand in the middle of the street, then use another Zoi to ride a car and murder them via a Car Accident.

This can be useful when looking to free up Family slots in the Household without the need to split and merge, especially when expecting a pregnancy.
