Are There Ghosts?
Dying With Low Karma Turn Zois Into Ghosts
If a Zoi dies without sufficient Karma, they remain as ghosts. This has been confirmed in a post at Kjun's Concerns in the official Discord titled Boo! Zois who pass away with enough Karma move on to the afterlife instead.
After turning to ghosts, it has been mentioned that the Zoi will have to restore Karma points to reach the afterlife. It is currently unknown which activities a ghost can perform to restore Karma points.
Ghost Play is Not Available in Early Access
When your Zoi dies, you will receive a notification from Nyx that the Zoi became a ghost. You only have the option to play with your original remaining family members as the Ghost Play button is grayed out and is still under development.
Ghost Play Coming in August 2025
Ghost Play is set to release on August 2025 based on the Development Roadmap revealed in the Online Showcase. This update may come with all the ghost-related features including playing as a ghost to reach the afterlife.

Speak to the Undertaker to Contact Souls
Use the Smartphone to contact the Undertaker from the Services menu in Pocket Market. The Undertaker allows soul-related services, such as requesting a soul to be at rest.
In the Early Access version, interactions with the Undertaker currently have no effects. Its full implementation will likely come when the Ghost Play feature is added to the game.
Ghost Features
Ghost Appearance Rate
According to the developers, a Ghost Appearance Rate Slider will be added to adjust the amount of ghosts residing within the city, where ghosts are removed at the lowest setting and will densely populate the city when set to highest. This will likely be in the City Edit menu.
Additionally, the devs mentioned that ghosts will have a more creepy and eerie existence rather than goofy.
Ghost Encounters
Ghost encounters are hinted to be possible and may cause a negative effect on the Zoi. It was mentioned in that post that if a Zoi were to encounter a ghost, their status may fall to negative for a while due to extreme fright.
However, emotional reunions may also be possible. The devs also hinted that unexpected reunions may occur between friends and family who passed away that may lead to dramatic scenarios.
Ghost Expert Job
The developers stated that they are considering a Ghost Expert Job in the game. This profession is said to raise a Zoi's sensitivity to ghosts within the vicinity.
Ghost-Exclusive Tasks
Tasks exclusive to ghosts have been hinted to be an added feature. Details of ghost-exclusive tasks are currently unknown.
Personality and Behavior
According to the developers, ghosts will inherit their traits from when they were alive. As an example, calm Zois will turn to mild-mannered ghosts and bully Zois may become a mischievous spirit.
Ghost Behavior Likely Influenced by Culture
The developers mentioned that they are looking to add the behavior of ghosts in folklore to add variety. Note that they specifically stated Korean Folklore for ghosts in Dowon, and other cities will likely not have this implemented during the early access.
