Is There Permadeath?

True Zenoiran Difficulty Mode Unlocks Permadeath

Set your game mode to True Zenoiran Difficulty and experience the permadeath feature! Get the True Zenoiran difficulty by finishing the game and unlocking New Game Plus.

Take note that you cannot switch back to other game difficulties after switching to True Zenoiran game difficulty, so make sure to only choose this mode when you feel like you're up to the challenge!

How Does Permadeath Work?

Permadeath Applies to Party Wipes Only

For Permadeath to fully apply, an entire unit has to be wiped out first. When a party gets wiped out during a Battle Stage, it will trigger a short dialogue from the unit leader and they all retreat from the battlefield.

Stock up on Revival Orbs and healing items to ensure survivability in Battle Stages!

Wiped Out Units Labeled as Retreated

After a Battle Stage, wiped out units will be labeled as Retreated and cannot be revived.

When this happens, they cannot be deployed anymore so you must hire new mercenaries at a Fort or City to replace them, grind Stage Battles for EXP, or use Military Treatise to level up quickly.

How to Avoid Permadeath Wipes

Organize Unit Formations Pre-Stage Battles

On this difficulty setting, you need to know which units to prioritize for progression, and become familiar with how each unit works with each other.

To avoid permadeath wipes, organize your unit formations and set your tactics templates before heading out to Battle Stages!

Always Upgrade Equipment and Armor

Always know that equipment and armor upgrades heavily matter for this difficulty. You may refer to our Best Weapons Guide to know which equipment you should prioritize to get!

Best Weapons Tier List

Stock Up on Recovery Items

Aside from getting heals from a Cleric like Sharon or a mercenary, stock up on items that maximizes HP recovery, and Revival Orbs!

You can still revive fallen allies as long as the remaining members are still alive!
