Ochlys executes Mandrin.

We recommend freeing Mandrin to encounter and possibly recruit him later in the story. Though letting Mandrin go will miss you out on 15 Divine Shards, this resource can be easily obtained through other means such as mining.

Mandrin returns once more in the quest “A Shifting Tide”. If you let him go, he will join your army along with Celeste and Gammel once the quest finishes.

Always Recruit a New and Playable Character

In general, we believe it's much more valuable to rally allies to your cause instead of having them turn into enemies. You might miss out on some of the resources they give if they don't join your army but it's a small price to pay for a valuable ally later in the story!
