Unicorn Overlord - Should You Free or Execute Gammel

Freeing Gammel in Unicorn Overlord is a much better choice compared to executing him in exchange for a few War Funds. See the Gammel Choice in the game, if you should execute or free Gammel, and the differences between letting Gammel go and jailing him in this guide!

Story Impact:

Gammel plans his revenge someday

We recommend freeing Gammel so that you can recruit him later in the story. Although you miss out on the 10,000 War Funds reward for the early game, Gammel leaves on good terms with Alain and the Liberation Army, instead of plotting revenge.

Gammel returns once more in the quest “A Shifting Tide”. If you let him go, he will join your army along with Celeste once the quest finishes. If you let his Mandrin go, he will join in this chapter as well.

Always Recruit a New and Playable Character

In general, we believe it's much more valuable to rally allies to your cause instead of having them turn into enemies. You might miss out on some of the resources they give if they don't join your army but it's a small price to pay for a valuable ally later in the story!

Couldn't free him. At the very beginning of his storyline he ruthlessly kills 3 guards. Who knows how many more he killed before. Maybe capturing him caused more deaths, but at that moment in time, I could not justify letting him go and ignore the chance to provide justice for those he and his henchmen have hurt (How many women and children were abused and killed? Twas war after all) He might have been lying as well and it was not my place to free him

I did not free him but helped his friend out (the one who tried robbing the church). I'm curious as to how the story goes from there and if I might still be able to recruit him.
