Unlike other tactical RPGs, you don't have to reach a certain level in order to promote your characters to advanced classes.
In Unicorn Overlord, all you need to do is to reach Renown Rank B in order for you to have access to class promotions.
Once you have reached this rank, Josef will tell you that you can now promote your characters to advanced classes by selecting “Promote” at any fort.

Now that you have reached Renown Rank B, head to any fort you have liberated and select “Promote” from the menu.
From there, you can select which characters you want to promote and see how many honors you would need to promote them. Note that the number of honors you need to spend for each class promotion varies.
Honors can be obtained by completing battle stages, making deliveries, defeating wandering enemies, and more! Make sure to play more of the game to get more honors so you can promote your soldiers right away!

Promotion immediately increases a unit’s base stats, including HP, attack, defense, and magic defense. This makes them stronger right away without needing additional levels.
In addition, promoted classes typically have better stat growth rates. This means their attributes scale more efficiently as they continue leveling, allowing them to outperform their base-class versions over time.
Every promoted unit also gains +1 Action Point (AP) and +1 Passive Point (PP). This is one of the biggest power spikes from promotion.
Some advanced classes gain access to additional equipment types upon promotion. This can improve survivability or expand build options, such as gaining shield access or new weapon types that were previously unavailable.
Certain promotions change a unit’s movement classification. This can increase map mobility, improve terrain traversal, and enhance overall positioning both in battle and on the overworld.
Promoted classes unlock stronger or more specialized skills that define their mid- to late-game roles. These new skills often provide better damage scaling, improved utility, or stronger support capabilities.
We recommend promoting your units to advanced classes as soon as you can to give them access to better skills and make them have better stats. They even get extra AP and PP once they've been promoted, so they'll do better in the battlefield.
There is no downside to promoting early. However, Honors are limited early in the game, so it is best to prioritize your core units first instead of promoting every character at once.
We recommend promoting Alain to High Lord first.
Doing so will let Alain ride on a horseback, thus giving him better movement speed.
What's better than Hoplite Hodrick? A Legionnaire Hodrick with even tougher defenses. Promoting Hodrick lets you have a reliable frontliner that doesn't shy away from mere physical attacks.
Just don't pit him against enemies that use magic attacks and he'll survive for a long time in the battlefield!
Scarlett, the Priestess, becomes High Priestess upon promotion.
This not only boosts her healing capability but also improves her support toolset with stronger abilities like Resurrection and enhanced buffs, making her a cornerstone of sustainability.
Berenice as a Sellsword who benefits greatly from promotion to Landsknecht.
She retains her offensive pressure but gains shield access and better durability, making her a strong pick for promotion early in your main squad.
