It is recommended that Melisandre be recruited as the reward for not doing so is a measly 30 Honors, which can easily be farmed from Auxiliary Stages. Melisandre is a Swordfighter and can be useful against highly evasive foes.
Colm, Melisandre's assistant, also joins after recruiting Melisandre. If Melisandre is executed, however, Colm is spared but will not be recruited.
Deploy Alain to Recruit Melisandre
For Melisandre to accept the recruitment offer, deploy Alain at least once in The Blade of House Meillet.
If you fail to do so, she declines Alain's offer and is subsequently set free, mentioning her desire to travel the world.
Failing to recruit Melisandre rewards you with 30 Honors despite choosing the "Recruit her" option.
