Each traveler in Octopath Traveler 2 has Path Actions that allow them to interact with the townspeople and world of Solistia. Path Actions for each traveler change depending on the time of day so it is worth exploring all available options.

Used to Uncover Secrets, Purchase Exclusive Items, and More

Octopath Traveler 2 - Secrets and More

Path Actions can also be used to reveal some secrets hidden in Solistia. You can open paths blocked by a strong enemy by ambushing them and sneaking past. You can also find items that are not normally sold in shops or even steal them from the townspeople.

Note that some NPCs will disappear from their usual spots as you progress through the story, so make sure to get their items before they disappear.

Octopath Traveler 2 - Day and Night

Each traveler has a different Path Action depending on the time of day. To help with this new mechanic, there is a new feature that allows you to quickly toggle between day and night time. Try and experiment when each Path Action is best used!

Players are able to access and take advantage of Path Actions should they meet their respective requirements.

These requirements can have characters come into combat, reach a certain level, or are required to give up certain items or money in order for the Path Action to be executed.

Hikari: Challenge and Bribe

Challenge
Challenge townspeople to duels and claim victory to learn skills to use in battle.
Bribe
Bribe a townsperson for useful information.

Warrior Hikari's Path Action, Challenge, allows players to battle townspeople. Engaging in battle allows him to strengthen his prowess in battle and learn skills from NPCs. This can also be a potential source of EXP farming.

At night, Hikari can obtain valuable information from key townspeople that may not be found elsewhere using Bribe. This information can help progression or unlock secrets.

Agnea: Allure and Entreat

Allure
Bring townspeople wherever you may go and summon them in battle for support.
Entreat
Obtain items from townspeople.

Allure allows Agnea to use her charm and call on the aid of townspeople in battle. Before using Allure, players can interact with an NPC to view its skills and success chance for recruitment. Having more members in your party opens up more strategies in battle!

Aside from asking for support from the townspeople, Agnea can use Entreat at night to get items from them and use it in battle and exploration.

Partitio: Purchase and Hire

Purchase
Obtain items from townspeople.
Hire
Bring people along on your journey.

As a merchant constantly pushed by commerce, Partitio is able to purchase the belongings of townspeople. Players may find valuable items from townspeople that are not normally for sale.

Partitio's night Path Action is Hire. He can bring townspeople along his journey at a price, but only if they have valuable skills.

Osvald: Scrutinize and Mug

Scrutinize
Glean information from townspeople.
Mug
Obtain items from townspeople by besting them in battle.

Even after being imprisoned for years, scholar Osvald kept his mind sharp. His Path Action Scrutinize allows him to extract information from the townspeople.

Osvald can mug people at night and get their items. For a successful mug, Osvald needs to defeat his target.

Temenos: Guide and Coerce

Guide
Lead a townsperson around. You must be the appropriate level to succeed.
Coerce
Force information out of someone by breaking them in battle.

Cleric and Inquisitor Temenos has always lead people along the right path. His day Path Action Guide allows him to take in certain townspeople as allies on his journey. Temenos will need to have a high enough level or else he cannot use Guide on townspeople.

Temenos can use Coerce at night, allowing him to challenge townspeople in exchange for information. For Coerce to succeed, Temenos will need to break his foe.

Throne: Steal and Ambush

Steal
Steal townspeople’s belongings (with a given probability). Fail, and your reputation will suffer.
Ambush
Knock people unconscious. You must be the appropriate level to succeed.

As a seasoned thief, Throne's day Path Action Steal allows her to take the items of townspeople with a given probability. Failing and getting caught will tarnish your reputation so pick your targets carefully.

Throne is no stranger to covert operations and she can Ambush foes and knock them unconscious to avoid unnecessary combat.

Ochette: Provoke and Befriend

Provoke
Challenge townspeople to battle. Fail, and your reputation will suffer.
Befriend
Take a townsperson along on your journey. You must have a specific item to befriend them.

The fledgling hunter Ochette can challenge people at day time with her Path Action Provoke. Ochette cannot directly participate in battle and will have to depend on her beastly friends. Make sure you can win the challenge or else you will lose reputation.

At night, Ochette can befriend certain townspeople and take them on her journey as long as you have the required item on hand.

Castti: Inquire and Soothe

Inquire
Obtain information from townspeople. You must be the appropriate level to succeed.
Soothe
Allay a townsperson’s pain, allowing them to sleep. You must have a specific item to soothe them.

Apothecary Castti has no recollection of her past and identity. Her day Path Action is Inquire and allows her to acquire information from townspeople if she meets certain level requirements.

As an experienced healer, Castti can use Soothe at night to help alleviate a person's pain and help them sleep.
