Octopath Traveler 2 has a day and night cycle mechanic that the original game did not have. Find out how you can change the time of day as well its effects to the gameplay!

How to Change Time of Day

Switch Time by Pressing ZR or R2

Octopath Traveler 2 - Switching Time of Day

Players can switch between night and day by pressing the ZR button (Switch) or the R2 button (Playstation).

This is a new mechanic within the series and allows you to change Path Actions depending on the time of day, enabling you to interact with the world around you in different ways.

Path Actions are special skills unique to each traveler used outside of battle to uncover secrets, find items, and more. Each traveler has a different Path Action depending on the time of day.

During night time, stronger monsters come out at night which can be useful if you want to grind to make your party stronger.

Reveals Black Market Shops

Octopath Traveler 2 - New Delsta Flats Brightlands Black Market 3
During the night, travelers can encounter Black Market vendors on the map and they sell rare products like weapons, armor, accessories, and items. Black Market products changes every night, so make sure to buy whatever product you need before it disappears.

Some of the products can be quite pricey, so make sure that you have enough Leaves.
