Octopath Traveler 2 -Mahina and Akala

Unfortunately, the companion not chosen cannot be recruited once players have made their decision.

Branching Scenes

Octopath Traveler 2 - Throne Chapter 2 - Branch
As players progress through the story, there will be times where you'll have to make a choice. Depending on the option you choose, the next scene may play out differently.

If players want to see the other choice, make sure to save before proceeding to story sections in case you encounter dialogue choices during cutscenes. Doing this will give you the freedom to select whichever dialogue choice you did not pick prior.

Initiating Extra Stories

Octopath Traveler 2 - Side stories
After completing all of your character's chapters and crossed paths, players will be able to access the Extra Stories, which is basically a post-game chapter that players can accept to fully complete the game. However, proceeding through the Extra Stories will restrict you from completing side-stories.

If you want to experience the grand finale of the game, it's recommended that you finish all of the side-stories available in the game first.

Starting the Epilogue

Octopath Traveler 2 - Journey

Are Branching Chapters Missable?

No, You Can Do Multiple Branching Chapters

Player Choice
There are certain chapters that have branching stories based on the option chosen by the player, with each route providing a unique experience like different bosses. However, after completing a chapter route, you can also do the other chapter route afterwards.

For example, if players complete Throne's Father Route during Chapter 2, players can do the Mother Route afterwards.

Travel Banters are not missable. You can see them in the journal section when you select a character in the main story. If you proceed normally without going through the travel banters, they are symbolized in the upper right corner when selecting in the image that I will attach.
