Monsters With Multiple Attacks

Octopath Traveler 2 - Ocean Lizardking
At this point in the game, Ochette's DPS starts to fall off, with most of the high damage numbers coming from Hikari instead. This doesn't mean Ochette becomes unreliable as she can now transition from your main DPS into a support that can burn through all of her enemies' shield points instantly using her EX Skill, Provoke Beasts.

It's recommended that you limit your one-time use captures to three or fewer and focus on capturing monsters with skills that hit all enemies multiple times. It's also a good idea to have each monster cover one of the attack types for versatility.

Battle-Worn Shark Location

Encountered in The Sundering Sea

Map World View
Strength 10 Shield 9
Skill Complete Nourishment (All)
Prepare Perfect Jerky x1
Weakness
Dagger Polearm Staff Fire

You can encounter the Battle-Worn Shark randomly by going around The Sundering Sea, which you can access by buying a ship. If you haven't defeated the Battle-Worn Shark yet, you can find it lurking in the sea with its fins visible above the ocean. Ram your boat into the shark to bring up the prompt to fight it.

The shark offers a powerful skill that allows him to attack with a dagger on all enemies and recover all allies' HP/SP/BP at the same time. Helpful during situations where you need to go on the offensive while needing to heal up and raise all of your allies' resources. Later on, if you're focused on leveling your party up, defeating the Battle-Worn Shark is part of a method to level up fast.

This can be achieved by using Path Actions Guide, Allure, Hire or Befriend on NPCs. It's not possible to capture the Dreadwolf during your first encounter, but once you defeat the wolf, you get a rare chance to encounter it again and be able to capture it like any other monster.

Dreadwolf offers players a skill that allows them to hit all enemies with a dagger attack 4x in a row, helping you shred their shield points quickly. The attack also inflicts Physical Defense and Speed down debuff on all enemies, allowing you to perform actions faster next turn and making your physical attack even stronger.

Devourer of Dreams offers players a defensive-focus skill that allows the whole party to dodge physical attacks and reflect magical attacks for 2 turns. It also buffs the party with a Speed up, ensuring that everyone will be able to act first on the next turn. How to Capture Monsters Easily

Weaken Monsters to Increase Capture Rate

Octopath Traveler 2 - Ochette vs. Cait
Ochette can capture monsters she encounters in battle. The capture rate of a monster increases when the monster has low HP, is in a break state, gets inflicted by abnormal status, and its weaknesses get revealed.
Ochette Profile

Defeated Monsters Aren't Capturable

Octopath Traveler II - Ochette Wins
Be careful not to weaken the monster you're capturing too much to avoid defeating it accidentally. While Ochette offers a 25% chance of capturing the monster automatically, it's better to be guaranteed than to lose the monster you're looking for.

It's recommended to use Ochette's skill Mercy Strike when trying to capture monsters, as it will leave their health with 1 HP and avoid defeating it accidentally.

Advantages of Capturing Monsters

Capture Advantages

Able to Access Stronger Skills at Early Levels

Octopath Traveler 2 - Ochette Latent Power
When capturing monsters, you gain skills that offer you an advantage during battles. In some cases, some of the monster's skills can also carry you pretty far in the game without trouble.

An example is when you properly set up a team that capitalizes the Light Revenant's Solar Ray Clock (All), which can destroy enemies until you're late in the game. This will allow you to breeze through the story, get yourself levels, and go on fights without much trouble.

Best Party Setup and Team Composition

Prepare Food and Use It as Currency

Octopath Traveler 2 - Prepare Food

Another advantage of capturing monsters is getting access to the different types of food that offer recovery and buffs by preparing monsters. This will allow you to stockpile items you can use in combat for your party without spending a single dime.

Jerky can also be used as a currency when traveling to Toto'haha's Beasting Village, which lets you trade it for an assortment of items. You can also use the food Ochette makes to befriend people to join your party.

Jerky Farming Guide

Defeat Stronger Monsters Easily

Octopath Traveler 2 - Light Revenant
When going against strong monsters, Ochette's capture can easily defeat them using her capture. Instead of depleting the monster's health, capture allows you to defeat them early if you're lucky enough, saving you the time and resources you'll have to use when doing it normally.

Other than light revenant, the others are pretty trash. You're much better off capturing double attack (all) for breaks than the low damage one hit AOE.
