Capture Monsters in Low-Level Areas

Ochette Capture King Iguana
One of the best ways to get more jerky is to go to a low-level area once you are at a decent level with Ochette and capture the monsters that inhabit there.

Low-level area means that the monsters are generally weaker and receive more damage from attacks, meaning that they will be easier to catch if they hit low HP.

Afterward, prepare the monster that you do not need and they will turn into Jerky. Note that only some monsters turn into Jerky when you prepare them.

Use Mercy Strike Job Skill

Skill Description Damage Type SP
Mercy Strike Unleash a bow attack on a single foe. Otherwise, lethal attacks will instead leave the target with 1 HP. Bow Bow 4

Since you need the monsters alive to capture them, use the Hunter's job skill Mercy Strike which will unleash a bow attack on a single foe and will leave them with 1 HP if the attack will otherwise kill them.

Use the Changeable Catapult Job Skill

Skill Description Damage Type SP
Changeable Catapult Unleash an attack on all foes with a selected weapon. Any Weapon 0

Equip the Inventor Job for Ochette as it has a job skill called Changeable Catapult that unleashes an attack on all foes with your selected weapon without using any SP. This saves you a lot of time going back and forth at inns to replenish your SP.

Capture Monsters That Attack All Foes

Ochette Capturing Monster

Alternatively, you should also capture a monster that deals damage to all enemies and summon them in a battle to quickly defeat enemies. This also works well with Ochette's ability to have a 25% chance of automatically capturing a defeated monster.

This means you can clear horde of monsters quickly and possibly capture one of the monsters automatically, saving you some time farming Jerky.

Used as a Currency at Beastling Shops

Octopath Traveler II - Beastling Village Provisioner
In Ochette's route, the Beastling Village shops charge with Jerkys instead of Leaves. So whenever you go to the Beastling Village in the Toto'haha region, make sure that you have enough Jerky in your pocket.
