Similar to the first entry of the series, Octopath Traveler 2 might not let the player change their difficulty. Instead, the game shows a Danger Level to warn the player the recommended level needed for an area or chapter.

There are no difficulty settings included in the recent demo, released on February 8, 2023. It is highly likely that the full game will also not have difficulty settings.

In each chapter within the game, it will show the player the Danger Level indicating how strong the enemies are within that area. The higher the Danger Level is compared to your current level, the harder the enemies will be.

For example, during the first game, the recommended level for Chapter 1 is Level 5 while Chapter 2's recommended level is Level 24. Due to this, it is encouraged to play the first Chapter of other characters first before tackling the next Chapter. Once players hit the recommended level for the next Chapter or area, the player will have an easier time tackling that Chapter.
