Osvald Chapter 1 Walkthrough

Chapter Summary and Introduction

Osvald V. Vanstein is introduced as a prisoner of Frigit Isle Prison for the alleged murder of his wife and daughter. His story begins 5 years after he was incarcerated. After meticulous planning, he makes a daring attempt to escape the prison, but first he must prepare a few things to ensure his freedom.

Escape the Prison

Frigit Isle: Prison

Objectives

Plan the Escape
Once you are able to control Osvald, another prisoner will take notice that you always kept notes inside a journal. Details concerning your escape plan is written inside that journal prompting you to initiate a Path Action to Mug and retrieve Osvald's Notebook.

Osvald needs to prepare three things required to exact his escape: an escape route, suitable clothing, and the right accomplice. These can be obtained in no particular order. Use Scrutinize to glean information from other characters in the prison.

Find an Escape Route
Go up to the Prison Hall and find the prisoner sprite with dark hair at the top of the stairs. Use Scrutinize to get information on the whereabouts of the labor report. Afterwards go to the library back in the Yard. Interact with the blinking area to gain information about the underground passage.

Find Suitable Clothing
Your goal is to find “The Provisioner”, another inmate that can provide clothing that is suitable for the harsh environment of the Frigit Isle. Scrutinize Bale, a prisoner across the well in the Yard to reveal himself as the intended target. Talk to Bale and learn that he will not give anything without a price.

Scrutinize the prisoner near the dining hall to learn Bale's Weakness. Return to Bale to exploit his weakness and obtain Cold-Weather Wear.

Find an Accomplice
Go to the Dining Hall. Look for and Scrutinize a prisoner named Emerald.He will say that he knows you plan to escape and is willing to help. Acquire him as a party member, meet with him in the Yard after the cutscene, and then go to the guard house at the leftmost area to escape.

Retrieve Ancient Necklace
While chests are optional, in this section, you'll find a chest containing the Ancient Necklace. Retrieve and equip this item which will help you out later.

Escape the Prison
Reach the end of the tunnel to find it blocked. You will be confronted by Warden Davids. There will be a Save Point just before the area where he confronts you, be sure to make a save before continuing. Defeat him and his men to continue forward. If he proves to be difficult, it is recommended to wander around the Underground Passage to grind more EXP.

How to Beat Warden Davids

Focus on the Guards First

Warden Davids Boss Fight
Though Warden Davids is the tougher opponent to bring down, it will benefit you more if you try to take them out quicker. Use Emerald's skills to land multiple attacks and provide healing when necessary.

Play towards Elemental Advantages

Elemental Advantages
The two guards will be weak against Ice Magic, while Warden Davids is susceptible to Fire Magic. Ice Magic can be used to attack multiple enemies at once, making it the smart choice for initial attacks. However once you have Davids alone, it is recommended that you switch to Latent Fire Magic to deal the most damage.

Retrieve and Equip Ancient Necklace

Osvald Ancient Necklace
Osvald's Scholar Skills can be very powerful especially with his latent power. However, they consume a lot of SP, and Osvald's Max SP at this part of the game is low enough that you might find yourself running out a lot. Before initiating the combat with Warden Davids, make sure to retrieve the Ancient Necklace from a chest in the area and equip it to increase your maximum SP.
