Mushroom Castle Vault Items

The vault room of the Mushroom Castle containing the Vault Guard Toad, 1 mushroom, 1 flower, and 10 coins can be accessed twice throughout the game: first right after meeting the Chancellor and second while the Mushroom Kingdom is invaded by Shymores.

The vault room is sealed permanently after the defeat of Claymorton, making the items inaccessible for the rest of the game if they are not retrieved.

Sleeping Samus in the Mushroom Castle

Super Mario RPG Remake - Samus Cameo
Samus Aran, the protagonist of the Metroid series, can be found sleeping in a guest room inside the Mushroom Castle as an easter egg. She can only be found there after beating Belome for the second time at Land's End.

Nothing is rewarded for interacting with her. She permanently disappears when you have reached Nimbus Land for the first time.

Samus Cameo and How to Find

Rose Town Extra Frog Coin

The opportunity to get an extra Frog Coin from completing a side event involving a Treasure Hunter in Rose Town can be easily missed by prematurely setting off a series of events.

Getting an extra Frog Coin is the best outcome of the many reward outcomes that can come out of this event.

Should You Confess to Stealing Treasures?

Nimbus Castle Nimbus's Flower Jar

In the Nimbus Castle where you can find the first Castle Key, there is a Nimbus that can give you a Flower Jar.

Not interacting with this Nimbus and defeating Nimbus will cause this room to be cleared out, locking you out of the Flower Jar if it remains unobtained.

Nimbus Guide

Stolen Wallet Choices Rewards

During the game's main story, Croco steals a Toad's wallet alongside Mallow's Rare Frog Coin.

There are only two choices, both leading to different rewards: returning the wallet gives a Flower Tab, and selling it at any shop rewards 123 Coins.

Choosing to give back the wallet will lock you out from selling it. Choosing to sell the wallet will lock you out from the Flower Tab. Of the two, giving the wallet back is the best choice in the long run.

Should You Give Back the Wallet?

Seaside Town Shop

Available Only Until Defeating Jonathan

Seaside Town Shop

Shop Exterior

Shop Interior

There is a shop in Seaside Town that you can only access for a limited time. This shop will become unavailable once you defeat Jonathan Jones.

Only Shop to Sell Any of its Items

This shop is the only one in the game that sells any of the items it has in stock, all of which are highly rare. In particular, the three Bomb Items are rarely found throughout the game but highly useful in Boss battles, so it's worth saving up some money to purchase a stock now and bring them with you into the endgame.

Sleeping Link in Rose Town

Super Mario RPG Remake - Link

Link, the protagonist of The Legend of Zelda series, can be found sleeping in the Inn of Rose Town. To encounter this easter egg, you must first defeat Bowyer and then return to Rose Town.

Stay at the inn and you'll see him sleeping on the other bed once you wake up.

Thought Peek Scans for One-Time Enemies

Super Mario RPG Remake - Use Though Peek with Perfect Timing

Some Thought Peek entries for enemies are considered missable especially if this is an enemy or boss that you can only encounter once in the game.

Once you defeat them, you will miss the only chance to get their Thought Peek in battle and you will have to pay 3 Frog Coins to the Monster List Agent in Booster Pass to get their entry.

If a boss has different parts such as King Calamari and its tentacles, you will need to use Thought Peek on each boss part as they count as separate entries in the Monster List.

How to Complete Monster List

Removed Missables From Original Game

The following features are missable only in the SNES version of the game and have been updated or removed in the remake:

  1. Mushroom Castle Hidden Treasure
  2. Dodo's Feather
  3. Ability to Give Names to Characters is Removed
  4. Selling Bright Card to Shop or Throwing it Away
  5. Booster's Charm

Mushroom Castle Hidden Treasure

There is a hidden chest containing a Frog Coin located on a ledge right above the door at the end of Mushroom Castle's hall. The only way to access it is to jump on Toad's head before he goes through the door and then jump onto the ledge.

In the original game, this is easy to miss, and there will be no other future opportunities to access this ledge.

All Hidden Treasure Locations

Dodo's Feather

In Nimbus Land, the Dodo Statue Minigame will reward you with the Feather if you succeed. In the original game, failing the minigame will lock you out of getting the item permanently.

In the remake, however, you can buy the Feather at the Treasure Hunting Toad shop. It will be available after reaching Nimbus Land.

Note that it still counts as a missable if you want two Feathers in your playthrough, since you can only obtain one in total if you fail the Dodo Statue Minigame.

Ability to Give Names to Characters is Removed

Super Mario RPG - Set Name

In the original game, you give names to your characters at the start of the game. These are permanent and cannot be changed later.

In the remake, Booster refers to you by your Switch profile at one point. That's the only time in the game that we have seen so far where a name is used.

Selling Bright Card to Shop or Throwing it Away

Super Mario RPG Remake - Getting the Bright Card
The Bright Card is an item that allows you to enter Grate Guy's Casino. In the original game, you can sell it to a shop for 777 coins or throw it away, preventing you from entering the casino permanently.

In the remake, it is now a key item, preventing you from selling it to a shop or throwing it away. However, the option to sell it for Frog Coins to the man in Marrymore Hotel is still there, but so is buying it back from him, which means you can't get locked out of the casino.

How to Get and Use Bright Card

Booster's Charm

The Booster's Charm, an accessory that halves damage taken from elemental attacks and modifies the wearer's stats, originally could only be obtained once in the main story while you are in Booster Tower if you win the Curtain Minigame.

If you failed the minigame, you will obtain Booster's Charm the next time you win in the Booster Rematch fight in the post-game
