Max Possible Coins: 36 Yellow Numbers: Order to collect coins to get 36 in one go Red Letters: Entry and exit points for Caverns |
Max Possible Coins: 64 Yellow Numbers: Show which side you should be on to collect the coins needed to get 64 in one go. Barrels: Show where new barrels appear on the course. |
For the Waterfall course, note that the Frog Coins shown in the map above are replaced with regular Coins after collecting, and are counted as part of the 36 coins.
For the Barrel course, note that the side a barrel will appear on is random, so you'll need to be ready for it to be on either the left or the right side each time a new barrel will appear.
Course | Maximum Possible Coins |

Part 1: Waterfall | 36 |
Part 2: Barrels | 64 |
Total | 100 |
To get the maximum possible score of 100 coins, you'll need to collect the maximum possible coins on both the Waterfall and Barrel courses, without missing a single coin on either. You'll get 5 Frog Coins and a Gold Medal in your Play Record if you can achieve this feat. Good luck!

While it may seem impossible to get all the coins, you can actually collect them by swimming horizontally! Before you go down either the left or right side of the pathway in the waterfall, make sure to collect all the coins first!
Pressing the B button will cause Mario to swim up by a small amount, while spamming the B button will make Mario tired.
The best way to move sideways to gather all coins is to press B twice then pause for a little bit to move sideways. Repeat these steps while maintaining a steady pace to move sideways without making Mario tired!
Get the coin on top of the obstacle and go right to collect the coin in the narrow path. Move immediately to the left to get the coin on the left side, and then go right as soon as you've obtained the coin on the left side.
You'll lose the chance to get the coins once you enter the hole since they disappear after you return to the waterfall.
On the second split-pathway, immediately go right as soon as you receive the last coin in the left path. Maintain a steady pace so Mario won't get tired!
Frog coins are not counted when trying to get all 100 coins. Frog coins will turn to regular coins after collecting them.

Jump while on a barrel to get the coins floating in the air. You can change between the left and right side by hitting the barrel your standing on with another barrel.
To continue with the current side, simply jump before hitting another barrel, and you'll be transferred to that barrel.
1 | Jump towards the barrel and jump 4 times to get coins |
---|---|
2 | Take the coin and hit the barrel, then jump 4 times |
3 | Hit the barrel and jump 4 times to get coins |
Assess the pattern of the coins by observing the positions of the first coin and the barrel. Understanding how this works will help you collect most coins in this course.
When you hit a barrel and change sides, jump immediately to collect the coin. Focus and time your jumps to avoid mistakes!
It is recommended to play this part with sounds on to help time your jumps. The fishes also provide an audio cue before jumping out of the water, making them easier to avoid.
Midas River Rewards |
---|
|
Coins Acquired | Reward |
---|---|
60 Coins (first time only) | Frog Coin ×1 |
70 Coins | Frog Coin ×1 |
100 Coins in a single run | Frog Coin ×5 |
You'll also be able to get Frog Coins by exchanging the coins you collect. The price decreases depending on if it's your first time or if you ever collected a certain amount of coins in one run.
Getting 100 coins in a single run will get you 5 frog coins! However, attempting to get 100 coins in one run is challenging. You can check our course map for which coins to collect in both the waterfall and barrel courses of Midas River.
You won't be able to keep the gold coins you collect; Toad will store them with him instead. You can accumulate them for the next time you come back and play, so even if you don't hit the requirement for the Frog Coin on a single run, those coins will still count towards your next go.
There are Frog Coins initially collectable in the waterfall course, but after you collect them, they'll be converted into regular gold coins in the following runs.
There is a cave that will get you 1 Frog Coin if you entered it the first time. After collecting the frog coin, it won't be present in the next runs.
There are two Flowers in the course in the waterfall part, within two of the caves. Once you collect them, you won't be able to get them in the next runs. Be cautious in the caves you enter, as one of them will cause you to lose coins!
Once you get to the end of the course the first time, the Toad at the end will reward you with the Koopa Shell, a weapon that can be wielded by Mario.
Koopa Shell - Stats and How to Get
When you collect 81 or more coins in a single run, you'll unlock a Gold Medal next to the Midas River Record in your Play Report, an extra menu screen unlocked after completing the game.
Post-Game Content and Unlockables
After you defeat Belome in Kero Sewers, you'll get flushed out of the sewers, and the minigame starts.
You'll then be able to redo the minigame for 30 coins by talking to the Toad at the end of the course again.
