How much Yoshi earns from the minigame will depend on the number of Yoshi Cookies wagered. If you wager 10 Yoshi Cookies and the odds are 5:1, then you'll receive a total of 50 Yoshi Cookies if you win the race! In this example, you'll earn a profit of 40 Yoshi Cookies since you'll get back the 10 Cookies you wagered.

Failing will reward nothing (you will lose the cookies you wagered).

The entry price for playing the Yoshi Race is wagering Yooshi Cookies. Upon winning the minigame, you will get double the Yoshi Cookies you wagered back.

To win the game, your Yoshi must be the first to make it to the finish line. Alternate between the corresponding buttons in a rhythm to the music make Yoshi go faster. Towards the end, you may want to start using Yoshi Cookies for a speed boost.

If you mash too fast or your button timing presses are off, Yoshi will go off pacing. Also take care when using Yoshi Cookies, as you may have less than you originally wagered!

Check Timing in the Tutorial

Super Mario RPG Remake - Yoshi Race Tutorial

In some technical cases (such as delay in audio or video), it may be better to match to a rhythm than to the sound of music's cymbals.

Cases may vary per player, so it is always best to check in the tutorial if the timing is correct!

Timing is Always the Same

Super Mario RPG Remake - Half-Time

During the second-half of the race, the rhythmic cymbal sound will disappear, so you will have to memorize the timing well beforehand to continue pushing forward towards the finish line.

Use Yoshi Cookies as a Last Resort

Super Mario RPG Remake - Press Y to Eat Yoshi Cookie

It is recommended that Yoshi Cookies be only used near the end of the race as either as a last resort. It may be difficult to have consistent timing towards the end of the race, so make use of them to have Yoshi sprint towards the end.

Do remember that the entry fee is still Yoshi Cookies, so do not spend them recklessly!

Benefits to Winning Yoshi Race

Feed a Yoshi to Turn Into Fat Yoshi

Super Mario RPG Remake - Fat Yoshi

If you give 21 Yoshi Cookies to a Little Yoshi within the area and come back, he will have grown into a Fat Yoshi.

Giving more than 21 Yoshi Cookies does not give any reward, so make sure to just give him the exact amount, since you will be able to get more rewards when interacting with him as Fat Yoshi.

How to Get Fat Yoshi

You Can Access Fat Yoshi Without Saving Up Cookies from Races

Super Mario RPG Remake - Red Yoshi Giving Free Cookies

It is possible to turn the Little Yoshi into Fat Yoshi prior to racing by simply talking to the nearby Yoshis (particularly the Red Yoshi for Yoshi Cookies (you will receive 3).

You can then give the 3 Yoshi Cookies to the Little Yoshi and then repeating asking for more from the Yoshis until he is enlarged. As mentioned previously, no extra reward is gained until he grows into Fat Yoshi.

Earn Rewards from Fat Yoshi

Amount to Give Items Rewarded
Give 30 Yoshi Cookies Total Frog Coin
Give 20 Yoshi Cookies Simultaneously Red Essence
Give 10 Yoshi Cookies Simultaneously Red Essence
Yoshi-Ade
Energizer
Bracer
Every 50 Yoshi Cookies After Giving A Total of 30 Yoshi Cookies Frog Coin

It is recommended to give the Yoshi Cookies in fixed amounts mentioned above exccept for the Frog Coin.

When giving Yoshi Cookies to Fat Yoshi, you will be rewarded items based on the number of Yoshi Cookies you give.

It is recommended that you aim to earn enough to get Red Essence, which allows a user to be invincible for at least 3 turns (possible up to 5 turns) in battle while also curing status ailments.

Give Exactly 20 Yoshi Cookies for Red Essence

For getting the Red Essence, it is best that you give exactly 20 Yoshi Cookies, since giving anying more or less may trigger other rewards instead.

Always Get a Frog Coin Every 50 Cookies

For every 50 Yoshi Cookies you give to Fat Yoshi after the 30th Cookie, you will always receive 1 Frog Coin instead of the item you would otherwise receive. So make sure that you are only giving 20 Yoshi Cookies at a time before you hit the 50th mark if you are aiming only to get Red Essence.

It will be ideal to follow this pattern: 20 Cookies → 20 Cookies → 10 Cookies (get 1 Frog Coin) → 20 Cookies to maximize the amount of Red Essences you can get.

How to Efficiently Use Yoshi Cookies

Save and Load When Supporting Yoshi

An efficient way to earn Yoshi Cookies is by supporting him with them and winning the race. This is still chance-based, but the chances to win are higher thanks to the Yoshi Cookies given to him!

If you want to safely secure each Yoshi Cookie you win, you can just save after winning and reload after losing.

Cookie Multiplier Can be Reset

Yoshi Cookie Multiplier Table
1.5x 2x 2.5x 3x 4x 5x

Every save and load will affect the Yoshi Cookie effect multiplier. Getting higher multipliers are rare, and there is no difference in diffculty depending on what multipliers are taken.

When the effect gained from the Yoshi Cookie does not seem significant (and the chance of winning is low), it is recommended to reset to your last save before the race.

Ride Yoshi for More Reward

Skilled players can increase the stakes and earn more reward by riding Yoshi and joining the race. In this case, no reset is necessary if you are head of the other competitors.

If you consistently win this way, this can be an efficient way to earn Yoshi Cookies!

You will need to repeat Step 3-5 if you lose to Boshi.

1. Find the Pipe Vault After 2nd Star Piece

Super Mario RPG Remake - Find the Pipe Vault

Pipe Vault can be accessed after you have defeated Bowyer and acquired the second Star Piece in Chapter 2.

This area can be found to the left of Rose Town. Once you are at the location, simply enter the pipe to get inside the Pipe Vault.

2. Enter the Pipe Vault to Get to Yo'ster Isle

Super Mario RPG Remake - Go Through the Pipe Vault

To get to Yo'ster Isle, you have to go through the Pipe Vault which is a series of areas and pipes leading into different rooms. You can also find the Goomba Thumping minigame within this vault if you are thinking of taking a detour!

Finding the path to Yo'ster Isle is straightforward since you only need to enter the area or pipe at the far top-end of each room until you reach it. Go through 4 areas and the last pipe will bring you to the entrance of Yo'ster Isle.

Once you have made it to Yo'ster Isle, it will unlock as a fast travel point on your World Map.

3. Ride Green Yoshi

Super Mario RPG Remake - Ride Green Yoshi

Once in the Yo'ster Isle entrance with a save point, enter the area at the bottom-left of the pipe and look for the Green Yoshi.

4. Get Yoshi Cookies from Other Yoshis

Super Mario RPG Remake - Get Cookies from Other Yoshis

Make sure you do so, as some of the Yoshi you talk to will give you Yoshi Cookies for the race.

5. Defeat Boshi (Blue Yoshi)

Super Mario RPG Remake - Defeat Boshi

In order to start the Yoshi Race, you will need Yoshi Cookies to wager with Boshi.

Once you do have the Yoshi Cookies, simply talk to the Blue Yoshi (Boshi) in the area with sunglasses. He will accept the your deal to race as soon as you talk to him.

If you lose the race against Boshi, you will have to repeat from the 3rd step (ride Yoshi again, then procure cookies). It may just be quicker to save and reload before you fight Boshi!

Simply talk to Yoshi and ride on his back, obtain cookies from nearby Yoshis (again, you can try from the Red Yoshi), and then talk to Boshi to wager these cookies.

From this point on, you can choose to race with Yoshi or just support him. More rewards can be earned by racing with him, so feel free to try them once you get used to the racing rhythm!
