1st Place: Peach

Best Healer: Can Fully Heal and Revive Allies

Peach's ability to fully heal and revive allies makes her the best character in the game. Her base skill Group Hug heals the party and nullifies any status ailment with just 4 FP. Additionally, she learns how to revive allies with Come Back at the cost of 2 FP.

Excellent Physical Attacker

On top of being the best support character, Peach can also deal massive damage against enemies when equipped with the Frying Pan weapon. With this, and though Peach is a healer, her physical attack power is second strongest among all characters bonuses aside.

2nd Place: Mario

Mario Mario Overall Tier Ranking
Super Mario RPG Remake - S Tier
Role Max Stats Moves
Super Mario RPG Remake - A Tier Super Mario RPG Remake - S Tier Super Mario RPG Remake - S Tier

Master Mario's Jump Commands to Deal the Massive Damage

Boasting the highest attack performance out of all the characters, it is highly recommended to master the timing of Mario's Jump attacks in order to deal devastating damage to foes in a single move.

Improve Overall Stats with the Attack Scarf

To top it all off, consider equipping Mario with the Attack Scarf to give all of his stats a +30 increase, which will allow him to deal even higher damage while having good defense and speed in battle.

Secures Second Spot Thanks to Endgame Gear

While a close tie against Geno, Mario takes the second spot due to his endgame gear, specifically the Attack Scarf and Lazy Shell (Weapon) combo. Without the 2-gear combo, Mario and Geno would be about the same in terms of strength, with Geno slightly winning in versatility.

3rd Place: Geno

Geno Geno Overall Tier Ranking
Super Mario RPG Remake - A Tier
Role Max Stats Moves
Super Mario RPG Remake - A Tier Super Mario RPG Remake - A Tier Super Mario RPG Remake - S Tier

Ranks 1st in Speed and is Great Offensively and Defensively

Geno boasts the highest speed among all characters and is capable of dealing with both great physical and magical attacks. With his move Geno Whirl, he can deal 9999 damage when timed right, but note that this move is inapplicable for bosses.

Able to Buff Allies Using Geno Boost

Geno can also buff allies' attack and defense (if timed right) by 50% with his move, Geno Boost. While it's more efficient to use group-buffing items on characters, Geno Boost gives players an option to buff characters individually without using an item.

4th Place: Mallow

Mallow Mallow Overall Tier Ranking
Super Mario RPG Remake - A Tier
Role Max Stats Moves
Super Mario RPG Remake - A Tier Super Mario RPG Remake - B Tier Super Mario RPG Remake - A Tier

Magic Attack Specialist

Mallow is a magic attack specialist who can use Lightning, Ice, and Neutral-based attacks. Having a wide range of attributes makes Mallow an effective character when it comes to targeting elemental weaknesses.

Gets Better as He Learns More Moves

Mallow has low base stats upon recruitment, making him difficult to use from early to mid-game. However, his stat growth and learned moves as he levels up later in the game make him a formidable ally that can take enemies down by exploiting their elemental weaknesses.

Low Magic Attack Improved in the Post-Game

Despite being primarily a spellcaster, Mallow suffers from low Magic Attack compared to Mario and Geno. But with the introduction of new Post-Game Equipment in the Remake, Mallow gains access to the Sage Stick, giving him an increased +10 Attack and +15 Magic Attack over his original best weapon.

5th Place: Bowser

Bowser Bowser Overall Tier Ranking
Super Mario RPG Remake - B Tier
Role Max Stats Moves
Super Mario RPG Remake - B Tier Super Mario RPG Remake - B Tier Super Mario RPG Remake - B Tier

Physical Attacker with Good Initial Attack Stats

Bowser's base stats are extremely high compared to Mario's party upon recruitment, making him an excellent character to use to sweep enemies once you get him at Booster Tower.

Max Level Stats are Low

While boasting powerful stats upon recruitment, Bowser's stat growth, bonuses, and weapons come endgame make him one of the weakest characters in the game. Having the lowest speed among all characters, taking down enemies fast is a pain compared to characters like Mario and Geno.

Bowser's low endgame Attack is mitigated somewhat with the new Wonder Chomp available as Post-Game Equipment, giving a +27 Attack increase over his original best weapon, tying him with Geno for the max Attack stat! However, it's not enough to merit using slow and tanky Bowser over the fast attacker Geno for the remaining few post-game bosses, who are more vulnerable to Geno's damaging Specials than Bowser's status-inducing Specials.

Status Effect-Inflicting Moves are Great

While having low late-game stats and equipment, Bowser's moves like Terrorize can prove to be effective during some boss battles, as it can inflict Fear on enemies, which lowers their Attack and Defense by 50%.

*loses utility, to correct my previous comment

Clearly not a poll answered by many speedrunners. Mallow is actually the GOAT in this game thanks to his chain buffs, Snowy, and Shocker. Geno and Mario are still good, but only made better by Mallow's passive/team ability. Peach is great casually, but is almost useless at dispatching enemies quickly. Bowser is useful for a low-level party when he initially joins the team (at Level 9 or 10, I believe), but quickly uses utility because he benefits the least from Mallow's party buff.
