What Happens When You Die? |

|
When an individual member of your party dies, they won't be available for use until their HP is restored. When this happens, the rest of your party can still continue playing and you can swap out the fainted character (except Mario) to one of your characters in standby.
If you wish to revive a fainted character, there are a few ways to do so with items and abilities. The main one is an item any character can use, the Pick Me Up: when used on a fainted character, they get revived with all their HP and so can battle again.
When get Peach to level 13, she'll learn the Come Back special move. Normally, it'll only revive half HP, but if you correctly performed its Action Command, it will fully restore its HP instead, similar to the Pick Me Up.
Note that you can't revive a character that has been switched out, so don't switch out a fainted character if you plan to revive them.
When you win a battle with fainted allies, all of them will have 1 HP restored at the end of the battle. You don't need to waste a Pick Me Up if you can manage to finish a battle with the rest of your team!
When your whole party dies and gets wiped out, a Game Over popup will appear. Then, the game will send you to the Save Screen where you can select which save file you wish to start playing from.
How to Save and Turn Off Autosave
Any progress that you made after your latest save file will be gone if your team dies, so be careful! Any items, money, or experience gained will be gone. Make sure to save frequently and stock up on Pick Me Ups to avoid this scenario.
This game thankfully has autosave, which activates frequently, so you won't lose too much unless you have the setting turned off.
