How to Find Punchinello

Defeat Croco in the Mole Mines First

Super Mario RPG Remake - Croco in the Mole Mines

To reach Croco, you will need to have obtained a Microbomb from Croco, who you will have to catch and beat for the 2nd time (this time, in the Mole Mines). Finding Croco can be done early by looking for a room with spring and jumping on it, initiating a cutscene.

Unless you have the Microbomb, the passage, a cracked wall leading to Punchinello, will remain blocked.

Approach Punchinello from Behind

Initiating a fight with Punchinello from the front will have him push you all the way back to the save point room, so approach from behind or the side instead to start the fight.

How to Beat Punchinello and Attack Patterns

Counter Fear with Fearless Pin

Accessories Where to Get
・Buy in Rose Town shop for 130 coins.

Punchinello's Sand Storm is capable of inflicting Fear on your team, so it's best to have a Fearless Pin to protect a party member against it.

The Fearless Pin can be purchased at the Rose Town shop. However, it is priced at 130 Coins which can become expensive if you buy it for each party member.

It is recommended that you at least buy one for Mallow, who will serves as a healer in this fight.

How to Farm Coins

Focus on Attacking Punchinello

Super Mario RPG Remake - Focus on Attacking Punchinello

Punchinello will throw out Microbombs, Bob-ombs, and Mezzo Bombs to accompany him during battle. He will throw them out after one set has been defeated, so it is best to focus on defeating Punchinello over the bombs.

In case they become a nuisance, Mallow can make quick work of the Microbombs using Mallow's Thunderbolt so that you can clear them out quickly.

Block Bombs by Guarding

If you have gotten used to blocking enemy hits prior, this is a good time to start adjusting your timing, since it is best to press as the bombs start running towards you. This timing is the same for every size of Bob-omb (from Microbomb to the Mezzo Bomb).

As the battle progresses and Punchinello takes more damage, he will bring out larger Bob-ombs. The larger the bomb, the more damage you will take from explosions. But the damage received can be reduced by timing your blocks perfectly.

How to Block Attacks

Attack Punchinello with Geno Beam

Super Mario RPG Remake - Attack Punchinello with Geno Beam

Special Move Effect
Geno Beam
(Geno)
・Hold down the button until all 3 stars appear for a timed bonus (increased damage).

Punchinello is resistant to Jump attacks, making Mario inefficient in regularly damaging him with his main tools. Because of this, it is recommended that you use Geno Beam for attacking him instead.

Geno Beam costs a lot of FP, however, so make sure to have Mario support with FP and HP recovery using items, while Mallow can use HP Rain to extend the party's survival rate.
