When wild Legendary Machines appear in City Trial, you can swap your current Machine to them by bringing down their HP to a certain level. Once you've dealt enough damage to the wild Machine, you'll be able to switch and start riding it!
How to Change Machines in City Trial
Be careful not to knock out the Machine completely as it will turn into Machine Parts instead. It's better to ride the Legendary Machine, so pause your attacks occasionally to check if the switch option becomes available.

During the wild Legendary Machine event, an icon with a yellow exclamation point will appear in the mini-map and the overworld view. This indicates the Machine's location. Follow the marker as fast as you can to catch up to the wild Legendary Machine.
Wild Legendary Machines will continuously move around the City Trial map for about 40 to 50 seconds. If you don't weaken it and ride it within the time period, the Legendary Machine will disappear from the map, so you need to act fast.

You can deal damage to wild Legendary Machines by performing Quick Spins. Since this move is always readily available, try to attack aggressively and do continuous Quick Spins.
Wild Legendary Machines have high durability, so it might be hard to weaken them with Quick Spins alone. You can try to increase your damage output by performing Specials or using Attack Items and Copy Abilities.
