How to Change Machines in City Trial
Press the Y button to change machines in City Trial in Kirby Air Riders. See how to switch machines, how to dismount, and when to switch machines in City Trial.
How to Change Machines
Press the Y Button Next to an Unoccupied Machine
To change Machines in City Trial, press the Y Button while locked on to the unoccupied machine.
Press the Y Button on a Opponent's Weakened Machine
You can also steal an opponent's machine if theirs is about to break. Press the Y Button next to an opponent's weakened machine to steal it.
How to Dismount Machine
Press and Hold the Y Button
Press and hold the Y button to dismount the machine. Wait for the circle next to your character to fill up in order to dismount the vehicle.
When to Change Machines
At the Start of the City Trial
You will start with a Compact Star when you enter the City Trial. It does not have any particular strengths or weaknesses but it has low durability, so you should switch it to a machine suitable for gathering power-ups.
When the Machine's Durability is Low
If your machine's durability is low, there is a high risk that an opponent may steal it or destroy it.
If your machine gets destroyed, you will have to run and find another one.
Change Depending on the Random Event
During City Trial, events such as Short Race and Dustup Derby will appear at random locations. If you have time, try to switch to a machine suited for the event before heading towards the destination.
Change When Preparing for the Stadium Challenge
You will start the Stadium Challenge with the machine that you are driving at the end of the City Trial. Make sure to switch to your preferred machine before the 5 minute time limit runs out.

You can also swap machines in the Underground Parking Lot, particularly to clear the City Trial checklist objective of Swapping to 10 different kinds of machines in a single match.
