You cannot change your route character after you have chosen them. However, you can save right before the choice to load later if you picked a stage you didn't want.

Machines Are Stage Dependent

Machines Are Stage Dependent

The machines you will encounter depends on which areas you pick. It is entirely possible to miss out on a machine because you took a different route. You will need at least 2 runs of Road Trip to collect all machines. Collecting all in a single run is not possible.
