You can set the 2-Player Split Screen between Horizontal or Vertical in the Display settings of the Options menu.

The Split Screen automatically activates when you have two or more active players in the race!
Split screen online play is not available when playing with other accounts using Nintendo Switch Online.
Multiplayer Guide and All Online Features

Top Ride’s overhead, fixed-camera perspective allows the entire course to remain visible at once. Because of this, multiple players share a single screen rather than using a divided layout.
This setup makes Top Ride especially friendly for local multiplayer, since all action remains within view and players never need to worry about tracking their position through a split display.

Air Ride and City Trial support up to four players locally, with the screen divided into four individual windows when all four are playing. The display is separated so players can move freely in different directions without sharing the same viewpoint.

When setting up a two-player splitscreen session in Air Ride or City Trial, you can choose whether the screen layout is split vertically or horizontally. This option ensures smoother visibility and more comfortable gameplay without constricting the players with the layout.

Pro Controllers are fully compatible with Kirby Air Riders and provide a comfortable option for extended multiplayer sessions. They can be paired wirelessly to a single Nintendo Switch 2 and work in all local multiplayer modes.

Nintendo GameCube controllers that are compatible through the Switch adapter can also be used in Kirby Air Riders. Their layout closely resembles classic Kirby spin-off controls, making them a popular choice for players who prefer a traditional feel.

Joy-Con controllers can be used either individually or as paired sets. This makes them convenient for spontaneous local multiplayer sessions, especially when multiple full controllers are not available. Joy-Cons from Switch 1 are also compatible with Switch 2!
Joy-Cons function normally in all game modes, whether playing shared-screen Top Ride or split screen Air Ride and City Trial.
