There are 16 enemies returning from the previous game, Kirby Air Ride. Notably, Scarfy, Cappy, and Waddle Dee are enemies that are available as playable characters as well.

Enemies are scattered in the different courses and game modes of Kirby Air Riders. These enemies are meant to be defeated or captured to give you buffs or a speed boost!

In the City Trial and Road Trip modes, there are new Boss Enemies that are more powerful, and some have special mechanics to watch out for.
Benefits of Defeating Enemies
---

Defeating enemies result in stars that give your machine a temporary speed boost. The more enemies you defeat in succession, the more speed boosts you get!

Some enemies have icons above their heads indicating that a Copy Ability can be obtained from them! Press B as you're approaching the enemy to capture them and acquire their Copy Ability.

Defeating enemies also help charge the Special gauge faster, letting you use your character's Special sooner in the race!

In City Trial, defeating enemies can give you different items such as attack items or machine repair items.
City Trial Guide and Checklist

There are also Checklist missions that involve defeating different kinds of enemies, and in various ways, so defeating them while racing is an efficient way to clear more tiles from your Checklist!
You can use Quick Spin to hit enemies in your way. When you're approaching the enemy, time your Quick Spin just right to send it flying. In City Trials, you can also use it to damage your opponents.
Pressing B near an opponent and capturing them also counts as defeating them, and comes with the benefits that entails. This is also relatively easier to control than Quick Spin is for beginners.

There are Copy Abilities that are meant for dealing damage, and can be used to defeat more enemies from a distance!

Some characters' Specials are also geared towards dealing damage, such as Kirby's Burn or Ultra Sword, and can be used to defeat enemies along the course.
