Like Shotguns, Melee Weapons are excellent in close-quarters combat. They deal blunt and slashing damage against enemies, making them great for breaking down shields or inflicting bleeding damage.
Most Signature Abilities from Melee Weapons focus on extending bleed damage, restoring health on hit, and staggering enemies.

SMGs are the middle option for players that enjoy the flexibility that Rifles provide at the cost of Pistol-level range. SMGs generally excel at short to mid-range encounters, capable of filling enemies with lead in a short span of time.
Signature Abilities for guns in this class focus on improving their overall damage in a variety of ways, such as different bullet types, improved accuracy the longer one fires, and providing players with armor-piercing rounds for improved penetration against tough enemies.

Big Guns are heavy weaponry that, more often than not, are used to cause significant damage over a wide area in the immediate location of a player. These guns are best used when targeting objects such as vehicles or large groups of enemies, as they can easily wipe them all out with a single shot.
Signature Abilities for Big Guns focus on either doubling or tripling their payloads or increasing their explosion radius.

Special Weapons are almost like your standard firearms at face value, but their worth is seen in how much carnage, mayhem, and destruction you can do with these bad boys.
These guns are typically story-locked, so you don't have to worry much about missing them as long as you explore and complete all Main Missions.
Saints Row offers a deep customization system for players wishing to add some personalized touches to their armament. Weapon looks – ranging from Decals, Color, Surface types Material – can be changed on a whim for maximum visual enjoyment.
The models of certain guns can also be replaced entirely to look a certain way through Visual Mods, allowing players to change a firearm's appearance into a guitar, a foam finger, and any other available model!
Weapon Customization Guide: How to Apply Decals
Each gun comes equipped with a variety of Signature Abilities that can affect their performance in the field. These alterations can range from changing a firearm's projectiles, adding elemental discharges to landed hits, as well as full conversions that shift their ability to fire bullets.
These Signature Abilities are generally locked behind progression-related activities such as killing a number of enemies, but can all be unlocked and used to spice up combat!
