The 2022 reboot of Saints Row (Saints Row 5) will feature two-player co-op! Read on to learn more about their features, how to prank in co-op, and how to play in Multiplayer Mode.
List of Contents
Description | |
---|---|
Step 1 | From the Main Menu, select Co-op Campaign |
Step 2 | Select which type of Campaign you wish to play |
Step 3 | If you are the host, you can begin playing or you can wait for your partner to join. If you are joining another player's game, you will have to wait for them to accept your request. |
Host Game will let you choose which of your current saves you wish to use. After selecting a save file, you will enter the game and can be joined by someone on your friend list or another player looking to play co-op.
By default, the game will have the Session Privacy set to Open to All, which allows any player to join your game without needing an invite.
Join Friend will let you join a friend's current game session. Selecting this option will make your friend list to appear and you can select which friend you wish to join. Once they approve your request to join, you can begin playing the campaign.
Host New Game is similar to the previously mentioned Host Game but this will put you and your friend in a fresh game file. After selecting which difficulty to play on, you can begin the mission solo or wait for your partner to join.
Matchmaking lets you find a random partner online and join their session. Once the game finds a partner for you, you can begin playing once they accept your request to join them. You have the option of choosing any of your previous save files to play.
Local Co-Op is currently unavailable in the game. Previous Saints Row titles only offer online multiplayer, which makes it highly unlikely that Local Co-Op will be added anytime soon — if at all.
You and your friends can explore the city of Santo Ileso apart or together. There are plenty of side content options to choose from and when it's time for missions to start, you can take them on together!
One thing to note is that the icons appearing on the map will depend on the host's progression. An example of this is if you join in on a session, if you've already finished Dumpster Diving a specific dumpster but they haven't, it will appear on the map as available. But upon going to said dumpster, it won't have that glow normally indicating you can dive into it.
When you join a game, all items, abilities, and progress you make in the story is brought back to your own game! This means that any missions you played in multiplayer, but haven't in your own game, will be marked as complete. Players can also replay missions completed since the game will ask if you'd like to repeat the mission again.
Option | Description |
---|---|
Session Privacy | Change privacy settings on your game session |
Friendly Fire | Controls the degree to which your partner or crew can inflict damage on you through direct gunfire. Note: This setting only affects how much damage you take from your partner, not how much damage your partner takes from you. This setting doesn't apply to status effects |
HQ Customization | Allows HQ to be customizable by the visiting player Note: This setting takes effect if you are the host |
Co-op Pranking | Allow players to turn on/off pranking. Note: Both players must have this on in order for pranking to be turned on |
Multiplayer is currently limited to cross-generation which means players between PS4 & PS5 can play together, but those in PC and Xbox platforms cannot join them.
While this is the case for now, a tweet from the offcial Saints Row account talks about cross-platform play not being available on day one which gives the impression that cross-platform could be available at a later date.
Cross-Play Guide: Is Saints Row Cross-Platform?
To start pranking allies, turn on Co-Op Pranking in the Co-Op Settings menu. Both players will need to have this option turned on, otherwise this option won't be available.
1 | Once you're in-game, hold the prank button to know your Prank Challenge. This will either be C on the keyboard or left on the d-pad. The challenge can be seen on the top right corner of the screen. |
---|---|
2 | Once you complete the challenge, hold the button again to prank your partner and cause mayhem that ranges from giving them notoriety to turning them into a vending machine. Just be careful, since activating pranks can sometimes backfire and cause the effect to happen to you instead. |
