How to Do a Barrel Roll

With enough airtime, holding the brake button and moving left or right will complete a Barrel Roll in the 2022 reboot of Saints Row (Saints Row 5). Learn how to perform this trick to complete The Spins trophy and unlock Signature Abilities for vehicles, and the best location to do it!

How to Do a Barrel Roll

Hold the Brake Button while Mid-Air, then Left/Right

When going off a ramp, first hold down the button to Brake, then hold left or right on the control stick causing the car to gradually rotate. Complete a roll by landing it back on its wheels with a 360 degree turn!

At Least 2 Seconds of Airtime is Needed

If you're not in the air for long enough, you won't be able to complete the full 360 degrees. This can cause frustration as a failed attempt from insufficient airtime can overturn the car, cutting your attempt short and forcing you to retreat to the garage to try again with the same car. For this reason, you're better off picking a suitable location first.

Best Ramp Locations

Ramp Adjacent to the Halfpipe in Smelterville East

A canal running along the top of the Smelterville East area forms a deep halfpipe, and one spot features a convenient ramp which players can make the jump from. This is also the location shown in the video clip above.

Although there are a good number of ramps around the map, in most cases, you'll land too quickly after making the jump. This ramp has the advantage of the long fall after with a clean landing, giving sufficient airtime.

There is also a good spot in next to the East Providencia Cemetery where you can attempt consecutively because of the 5 ramps in the area.

Barrel Roll Completion Rewards

There's no practical purpose of doing this in-game, but the game rewards players who can pull them off with a variety of badges of honor for executing the elusive trick.

Vehicle Signature Ability Unlocks

Each Vehicle has a Signature Ability which can only be unlocked by performing a specific condition multiple times. Many of the cars ask the player to do a Barrel Roll 3 times with that car to unlock their Signature Ability: Jump, so to get them all, you'll be making a lot of ramp jumps.

The Spins Trophy

The Spins Trophy is available by simply pulling off your first Barrel Roll. Despite being a seemingly basic task, a low percentage of players have completed this Trophy as of the time of writing, so if you're struggling, you're not the only one!
